The Ribbon toolbar of Xchange editor is somehow too fat - a waste of valuable desktop space
Is there a way to switch to the good old, small toolbar in XChange Viewer?
or can this be added in the next release?

You can switch to the "classic ui" which is reminiscent of the Viewer, though still a fair but larger. This article details how to switch, and a few space saving options. You could also heavily customize the UI by placing your most used tools within the toolbar itself, and then hiding the rest of the UI with F8 (this button is a toggle to show/hide most UI elements).
