Lost list of pinned recent files SOLVED

Hello. Greetings!
After the last update I have been constantly losing the list of recent pinned files. I've already paid attention to problems when closing the program, but I always save the files I'm working on and then close the program. There can be no problem with that.

In previous versions, sometimes happened that I closed the program without having saved some file, but it asked me about the changes, I saved it and everything was fine.

This problem only started after the last version. Please help!

Can you please go to Help -> About and confirm the exact build you have installed.

Then if it is indeed the current latest (366) build - do you have any e.g. registry cleaning tools that could be causing such an issue?

My current version:

I never had registry cleaning tools installed on my machines!
Previous versions of PDF-XChange worked perfectly and nothing else was installed.

Thank you for the provided information.

Please uninstall all the PDF XChange products you have on your machine and then restart it.

When the system is loaded again please install the product from this link:

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/EditorV9.x64.msi

When you have this version installed please check if the problem still exists.

Also, please make a backup copy of your application settings from time to time.

This will also backup the pinned files list.

I changed machines, removed it from the old one and installed it on the new one and it seems to have fixed it.

However the session history works perfectly and the files of the "Last used session" remain perfectly accessible.

Hello lindermman,

Do you have any 'clean up' tools on your system that could be interfering with the registry entries created by other products like our own?
As those settings should not really be removed from our side unless you explicitly select to reset the Editor and all it's settings and chose to wipe the history and recent files.

Another alternative - is your user account coming from a company Server? Could there be some company policies that could be "wiping" your profile at some intervals that could be causing the above?

As I said, I don't have and never had a system or registry cleaning tool.
My account is personal, without any interference from a company or any file server. This problem only started after updating to version 366.
I think I discovered a possible reason: there was another folder in the program files directory (Tracker software 2018) that could be causing confusion in the program. I removed It. Lets se if this solves the problem.

So, the check-box to "Clear the History on Exit" is turned off.

A few questions:
1) You talk about "Pinned Recents". Is it so that the "Unpinned Recents" list is still there, or is it also lost/empty?
2) When does this problem happen. Does it happen when simply closing and restarting the Editor, or does it only happen after a restart of the PC?
3) Is it possible to switch (for a while) to an older version of PDF-XChange Editor to see if this problem still happens?

Hi! First of all, thank you very much for your attention!

1) The entire list empties, both pinned and unpinned. See the image I already posted in the topic above:https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=166358#p166358 .

2) The problem started exactly after updating to version 366. For now, I only noticed it when I restarted the computer after closing and turning everything off. I've done tests of just closing and reopening the program, but it didn't happen. However, it is not every time that the problem occurs. As you can see, I already marked the case as solved, however it happened again. I've fixed the files again, worked, closed everything, restarted the computer 2 to 4 times and so far everything works fine.

I already thought about the possibility of going back to the previous version. But I'll wait a few more times, as it seems that now it has resolved.
If it happens again, I'll let you know and return to the previous version.

Note: to me it seems like the history information is written into the following files (at exit of PDF-XChange Editor):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\History.dat
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\HistoryThumbs.dat

Maybe it would be interesting to verify if these files are still present when the problem occurs.

But, let us rather hope that the problem does not happen again.

Thanks for the help!
Indeed the .dat files are storing that info. If those have been tempered with by a third party application - this could indeed cause the loss of History items for lindermman.
Also hoping that the issue does not appear again for them!

It's already the second day without occurrences. Weird because I didn't do anything other than backup the files.
