Hello, krstoevan

Page number is recorded when exporting comments, and should be retained on import, so a comment on page 45 would always be placed at the same coordinates on page 45 of any document that you import that FDF file into. One exception to this is if there are less than 45 pages in the file, or page 45 happens to be a different size/orientation in the target document, and the exact X/Y coordinates are not available on that page. In that case, the comment will be placed along the closes possible edge of the page nearest to the original position.

You can import the FDF file to any document with the "import comments" tool:

hi, thanks for reply.

but the problem is, say i got an ebook, there are 10 chapters.

on mobile, the 10 chapters are too large, so i cut the ebook into 10 files, 1 file contain 1 chapter.

but to sit down and read, i still use my desktop;

so i wish to "migrate" those 10 files'comments back to the original PDF file of the ebook.

obviously the page numbers are not the same.

so, what should i do?

i did explore the .fdf file, and found xml of "page". i tried that if i change it,
it affect the insert page of the comments.

but it's too time consuming.

any way to do it in a more auto/smart way?

thanks

Hello, krstoevan

Unfortunately no, you will need to import the comments into the split version of the file, and then merge it all back together after importing those comments for the full sized version to contain the comments in order.

Hello krstoevan,

The PDF specification dictates how .fdf files should work, and while it might technically be possible to change that behaviour - it would break other compliance routines that we need to adhere to.

So the quickest way for your use case that I can think of is to just
Merge your 10 separate chapters as they are with their comments. This should give you a file with the same number of pages as the original uncommented file.
You can now also export comments from that merged file (if needed) to then import again in a copy of the original file.

Kind regards,
Stefan
