Position of fields: height and ruler
I have a PDF where I worked a lot - and now I have a strange display of the position of my fields - see attachment.
The "left-right" (horizontal) position is correct, but the vertical position shows other values in the property-panel than in the ruler. To switch the "direction of the y-axis" does not help.

Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
Hello, Peter2
In PDF, the Y position starts at 0 from the bottom of the page, going up, if any cropping has happened to the page however many applications do not adjust the "media boxes" which can result in the visible area having measurements that differ from the actual page size, and recorded position for objects.
If you use the "bottom up y axis", you should find that the numbers you see match the page position to the ruler properly, unless your file has been resized/cropped in the past.
If you believe that what you are seeing is an error, please send us a copy of the document, so that we can investigate it directly.
Kind regards,

Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
Thanks Daniel
I think the problem is caused from the orientation of the page - here it is "landscape". When I set it to "Portrait", then it is OK.
Can you confirm this?
(If not I can send you the file..)

Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
Hello, Peter2
That would definitely have an impact, yes! When the page is rotated, so is the point of origin, if you are looking at a 90 degrees rotated file, your Y axis would actually be the left/right axis, instead of the up/down axis.
Kind regards,

Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
I think it is a bug. I tried it also with adding a simple text on a landscape A4 PDF - the problem is the same. The ruler on the left and the coordinates in the status bar show the correct value (approx. 20 cm), the menu above in the ribbon shows 24.2cm (for a page which is only 21 cm high).
BTW: The value for the "right position" (x-axis) seem to be OK.

Hi Peter,
I see the same and I am not sure what it means.:
Let me touch base with the devs and get their feedback.

Hello, Peter
Could I ask you to please send us a copy of that document. I cannot seem to reproduce this with the file I am creating here.

Hello Peter2, sorry for interrupting.
Daniel's first comment probably says it all, but you could try the Normalize Page Orientation and Offset command.
Best regards,
rakunavi

From the figure you provided, I can imagine the following situation. However, it does not seem to be enough to determine that this is a bug. The "Page Measurement" and "Transform on the Arrange Tab" information are provided for different purposes, so they do not necessarily match.Peter2 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:58 am I think it is a bug. Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
Thanks @rakunavi
I think you nailed it. I attach a GIF which shows what I'm doing:
- create a new document, A4, portrait
- place a text: the coordinates are OK
- "resize" the page to landscape
- the coordinates keep their old values and are wrong IMHO
- use the "normalize command" (I didn't know it before): now the values are OK.
Now for me is the question if the "normalize" should be done automatically while resizing or manually by the user ..

Re: Position of fields: height and ruler
Hi Peter2,
rakunavi
I watched the video and it operated exactly as I imagined. As I mentioned above, it is natural that they would have different values since they serve different purposes. However, I understand your idea well that it is easier to understand if both are consistent.
In the "Resize Pages" dialog, you might want to enable the option "Normalize media box to start from (0;0)". Dialogs that perform operations that cause coordinate offsets should basically have a similar option, so you can enable it if necessary.

For me it is OK now, but it is up to Tracker to decide how to handle the (automatic?) usage of "normalize".
