delete hand written?

Post by feuerland »

Hi, I was drawing on a PDF on an Android tablet with Samsung notes and an S Pen.
I have now opened the PDF on a Win10 PC with XChange Editor.
How can I delete the marks or drawings?

I don't know for certain what happens when you mark up a file using Samsung Notes with as S Pen: is a layer created with the mark-ups? But as far as I can tell by experimenting with Samsung Notes, there is no layering. Any edits, such as drawing, gets baked-in to the single layer.

You might be able to determine that in PDF-XCE by opening the Layers panel with the file open and see if there are more than one layer and if there is a layer with those mark-ups. If there is, then you can delete or edit that layer. Some image editing, such as selective redaction or over-writing, is possible in PDF-XCE on the single layer, if that's all you've got.

This issue will not be unique to PDF-XCE as no software will be able to de-merge the mark-ups once created in Samsung Notes, I fear.
All best,

My thoughts are the exact same.

If you could provide us with an example file, we will confirm if this is the case.

Hello feuerland,

Thanks for the sample file!
Your blue marker annotations were added as an image by that Samsung device:
image.png
So it is one single image that covers the whole page.
You can see the pixels of that image when you zoom in:

So you will actually need to edit a base content image if you want to remove only parts of the blue highlights.

You can e.g. open the contents pane and then right click that image to get to the editing options:

Or you can use the "redaction" tool to remove sections of ALL the content in your document (so please use with caution):

To access a specific pane (be it the Contents or Layers) - you need to click on View -> Panes - and then locate the one you need in the drop down:

Kind regards,
Stefan
