Anonymizing comments

Post by ckclarke »

I get a lot of PDFs from other people that require annotation, but I don't wish for my name to show up in the comment/note windows.

I've tried changing the default properties for the comments, but the change does not appear to apply to any new comments, even if I make my changes the default settings.

I cannot change the identity field in Preferences.

It won't let me change the author name in document properties.

I've got what I think is the most recent version, downloaded today, version 2.0 build 0039.

Is there a workaround here? I do not have the option of logging into windows under another name.

There's a search facility for these forums. Had you used that to search for "Identity" you would have discovered that you can Enter a name under Login name, and that wll then be used as the default name for annotations.

BTW The latest build is 0036

Uh, thanks but I did search the forums, and I did see the existing posts on the issue. They didn't help.

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/forum/v ... t=identity
To alter the identity of the document's author, you need to create a new document, which you can do by printing to a PDF printer driver.
Which doesn't apply to my situation.

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/forum/v ... t=identity
That is your Windows login Identity. To change it, log out of Windows, and login with a different name.
Which I specified in my post wasn't an option for me...

And had you read my post in its entirety, you'd have seen that I said that
I cannot change the identity fields in Preferences.
It will not allow me to delete/alter the login name.

Now in that thread it says:
To use your name different from Login name for authoring comments, you can set it into Name field on Identity page.
The English here isn't very clear - does this mean that Login Name and Name work as two separate fields, and that by changing the Name field, that applies to new comments?

And could I get the answer without the snark please? I realize that answering the same questions several times over gets tiring, but if you're getting repeat questions, it may be an indicator that your existing answers aren't clear or need to be moved to the FAQ.

There are no questions about the viewer in the FAQ — they are only questions about this forum.

If you read my post again and look at the Idenity page of the preferences dialogue you will see that there is a Name field under the Login Name field.

Setting the default author name for annotations.
