Hello!

Question regarding the forum search.

I was searching for one of Mathews posts:
viewtopic.php?p=175879#p175879 (Tool: Scale annotations by two reference lengths)

It does not show up at all when using the forum search.

Keywords I tried:

• Scale annotations

• reference lengths

• scale

• scale stamps

Anny idea why?

Hello KD952 and all,

I was just about to post the same question regarding the forum search function. I noticed this problem when my own recent post was not searchable with any keywords.

It appears that if a post is not searchable, it is not included in the total post count. In Mathew's case below, his profile page shows 174 total posts, but when you search the forum based on user name, only 166 posts are applicable. This means that the difference between the two, eight posts, may have been excluded from the search.

It is an extremely important problem that Mathew's posts, which are treasures of the forum, are not included in the search, unlike my trashy post.

I've been searching the phpBB forums to see if any bugs have been reported, but I hope there are no database corruption, disk failures, memory failures, or other bad things going on behind the scenes.

I was hesitant to post this because I did not know how extensive this matter was, but I thank KD952 for giving me the opportunity to post it.

Well, it's true that we cannot all be Mathew.
But don't put yourself down that much. You are always very thorough with your investigations.

You are both contributing to these forums a lot! So please do continue to do so!

As for the issue - several days ago we moved to a new server for the forums. It should have all been transparent to all users - however some of the search features might rely on e.g. caches that need to be recreated on the new server.
So I will now ask our web devs to take a look at this and get this sorted out!
