Quick Tools - Different Highlighter Tool Format shortcuts

Post by Loki@99 »

Hi,

Is there a way to have different Highlighter Tool Format on the Quick Tools pannel ?

I would like to have different shortcuts colors like I have in Drawboard PDF.

Hello Loki@99 and PHK,

Even with PDF-XChange Editor, it is possible to place commands for each custom style in the toolbar if the style has been registered as a custom style in advance.

The specific procedure is as follows.

  1. Open the Styles palette.
  2. Confirm the name of the custom style you wish to register.
  3. Open the Customize toolbar dialog.
  4. Enter the name of the custom style you confirmed in Step 2.
  5. You will see several commands with the same name, so use the icons to find the custom style for the Highlight Tool.
  6. Drag the command you want to register on toolbar.
  7. Repeat these steps for as many custom styles as you wish to register.

However, there is still room for improvement in the PDF-XChange Editor toolbar, since the Drawboard PDF toolbar has various outstanding features as follows.

  1. The toolbar can also be displayed in full-screen mode.
  2. The font size and line thickness of each command can be displayed in text as well, making them easy to distinguish.
  3. Scroll up and down with a gesture (flick).
The first and second requests have probably already been made somewhere, and the third probably has not yet been made, so for reference, here is a video showing how it looks in the Drawboard PDF.

For an even faster solution using single key presses to create or change between different highlight colors, have a look here.

Hi,

The issue with the suggested solution above is that it that Custom Style Tools pinned on Quick Tools doesn't sync (Tool color in Quick Tool should be similar to the one in Ribbon > Format) when switching colors in Ribbon > Format. Moreover, the color isn't remembered.

Thus, there is still a room for improvement,

Hello Loki@99,

Basically, color changes must be made from the Custom Styles palette. I agree that the style feature could be improved a bit more improvement, but this comment by Daniel might help you better understand the current implementation. Whether it is an intuitive UI/UX or not, it seems to work as intended from what I have seen in your video.

Hi rakunavi,

Well, I'm not really talking about improvement about Style feature but how the Quick Tools bar should support multiple different Tools with different Format and remember the last used color.

Rather than creating Custom Styles, I initially only wanted to have different Tools color on Quick Tools.

I mean, I expect the Quick Tools items to be simply handled like in Drawboard PDF.

Hello Loki@99,

Sorry for having made a off the mark comment in response to your feature request.
I also use Drawboard PDF a lot on a daily basis. I understand your desire to suggest various features of Drawboard PDF, although mine is Ver 5 (I have also used Ver 6).
I hope your suggestion reaches the developers.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello,

If you place the main "highlighter" tool on the sidebar (simply ctrl+drag from the home or comment tab to duplicate a tool, while the customize UI menu is opened) you can access a menu similar to this simply by right clicking on the icon, much the same as opening a style palette for most commenting tools works on the comment tab directly:

It may not be as "sleek" as some options, but it will certainly serve the same purpose until the Dev team considers the value of such a function.

Kind regards,

Hi Daniel,

Indeed, using the main highlighter Tool on Quick Tools syncs color with the selected one but as I said in the first post, I can't have 3 different main highlighter Tools with different colors so we're going backward.

That's why multiple independent Tools supported on Quick Tools will be convenient.

Hello, Loki@99

Oh certainly, but with the size of our dev team and the quantity of requests we have seen (especially in this past week) I cannot guarantee a short timeline on any of these items. So I was merely informing that this is the best/closest option available to you at the moment.

Kind regards,
