User/License info from adjusted .pdf

Post by elpe_88 »

Dear all,

We are a logistics company and got scammed. Someone used our company info (.pdf), adjusted this info just a little and now impersonates our company with these falsified documents. I now got a version of this falsified document.

Is there somewhere in the adjusted document some backgroundinfo (already found the Extra Meta Information) which could link to the license or username that adjusted te document whatsoever?

Adjusted .pdf is attached. Only thing changed according to the original is the e-mailadress top-right.

Hello, elpe_88

I am afraid not, While you may be able to gleam something about the application used, or a nickname/device ID by opening the document properties (Ctrl+_D) or by selecting a comment that was added tot he file, PDF does not retain unrelated personal information which is not intentionally added to it (whether manually or via a script).

While I cannot offer anything to help you in this instance, I can suggest that going forward you employ security to reduce the risk of these happening again: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... DF-XChange
Note that no security is perfect, and while the above makes it very difficulty, in PDF it is possible to get around these options if someone is determined enough, or does not mind risking file corruption in order to do so.
Any reputable PDF software will not allow methods to circumvent document security, but we have no control over whether or not unrelated applications respect the security you have put in place. The most reassurance I can offer is that there are very few applications which do so, and those that do are known to cause irreparable damage when they do so, meaning it has a very low potential to happen.
