Cropping images moves the image

Post by Loki@99 »

Hi,

There's an issue with the image editor > crop feature

Steps to reproduce
1.Open attached file
File_crop issue.pdf
2.Crop image

Issue

Image moves after the cropping
crop issue.gif

As an additional info, it's not file specific.

Thanks for investigating,

Hi, Loki@99

sorry if I am being obtuse, but I cannot see in your animation what the problem is. The result appears to my eye as it should. Can you offer any detail as to what you expected to get instead of what we see?

Also, perhaps you can describe the steps you took to "crop the image", that will be needed to reproduce your issue.
Best regards

Hi Paul,

The issue is that the image and captions bellow isn't aligned anymore after cropping.

Steps:
1. Open attached file above
2. Right-click the bottom mage
2. Edit in built-in editor
3. Crop the three persons at the very left of the image.

After

Here's an other file to reproduce the issue

Steps: Crop the teeth part

After

Hi, Loki@99

I see now.

The issue here is that there is more involved than just the image. The second example illustrates that nicely, there is a mix of image, line, and text objects, and you are changing only the image.

You will need to adjust the other content manually as there is no association between the image and them, they simply have "similar" coordinates on the page.

Hi Paul,

I tested with Adobe Acrobat and the way it handles image crop is pretty smooth. There's no need of extra adjustments.
Moreover, having the cropping adjustment displayed with all other content is convenient.

File 2_Adobe Crop

Thanks for improving,

It looks like the issue is that when an image is cropped in PDF-XChange, the resulting image is centered both horizontally and vertically at the location of the original image versus putting the cropped image back in the same location as the original image without centering it. The use case for not centering it is that the image will maintain its position relative to other content as illustrated by Loki's examples. I suppose the use case for centering it is that users want it automatically centered after it is cropped when the image's position relative to other content doesn't matter. I'm not sure which use case is more predominant (I lean toward not centering it).
Features I really want:
1. Fully customizable toolbars: https://forum.tracker-software.com/viewtopic.php?p=167585
2. Ability to draw curved lines: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=178335

Hi, mCHSNUg5Pz8cPap

I thought I had responded to this!

On the second example it is a combination of images, text and shapes, so editing the image is not expected to also change the other objects, they are in no way related other than their coordinates on the page.

Now the first one may be what you said, and I am seeing strange cropping results now I go back and take a second look, so I am passing this on to the devs.

Hi Loki@99

there is a ticket for this now. RT#6920: Editor :: Cropping images moves the image

I do not yet have any ETA for delivery of this fix, ultimately it will be at the discretion of the development team.
