pdf file size

Post by Wallner »

hello
when i create a new pdf and insert photos, text etc. and then save the pdf a very large file is created
if i then print this pdf with the pdfxchange printer again as a pdf the size fits or has been reduced considerably
unfortunately the new pdf is then no longer as editable as the original pdf
is it possible to reduce the size of the original pdf and still make the pdf editable?
thanks

Hello Wallner,

Please try the File -> Save as Optimized in the main menu:

That would allow you to create a smaller file directly in the Editor and without having to "print" it - which would keep the file editable.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello Wallner,

The "Audit Space Usage" dialogue shows the size of elements in the current file - not in what the optimized result would be.
Also - it seems like your file is 99.9% images - if you placed those as annotations (stamps) - they might indeed not optimize well.

Please try to flatten them, and then try the optimization to see if you will get better results.

As for editability - why don't you try to OCR your file once you've added the images:
How do I OCR documents with the PDF-XChange family ofproducts?

How do I edit document text after OCR has been performed?

That will create much smaller files that are editable and searchable.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Thank you for your attempt to help me, unfortunately I have no success, the pdf always has the same size
it only works for me if I resize the photos beforehand and then use them

the pictures I have currently always inserted by copy and past, apparently he takes the original size of the image naturally

thanks

Hello, Wallner

Could I ask you to share with us a copy of the file? As the file in your screenshots would be too large for an email or to place in a forum post, you can upload a copy of it here: https://files.tracker-software.support/ ... Ld5GXTp4DC
(This share link will expire in 7 days, let me know if you need an extension)

Re: pdf file size  SOLVED

Hello, Wallner

Thank you for passing the file along. As Stefan expected these items appear to be "stamps" which would not be affected by the same as optimized function (since that affects base content images directly).
These images are also quite large, with each being around 33MB by default. Manually flattening and recompressing the images results in a much more reasonable file size:

image(3).png
When working with extremely high resolution images like this, you will often need to perform a procedure like this to reduce the file size. To make this a bit easier, you can use the edit object tool, and then "right click > past as image" to ensure that the image is pasted as base content by default, so you do not need to flatten it (Using Ctrl+V while the edit objects tool is enabled should also work):
