Current page after deleting pages
Hi, I'm looking for yet another setting...
When I delete a series of pages in a document, I am confused as to which page becomes "current" after the page deletion operation.
Is it possible to make the previous page current to the pages selected to be deleted?
I don't know if the request is clear, if so I'll try to explain myself better
Thanks

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Hi, Davide78
I think I understand. Se this animation:
After I delete some pages, the "selected page" is still page 8. I think you are asking if it could be page 2 after the deletion.
is that right?

Re: Current page after deleting pages
it could be fine, but in the example given I would prefer it to be page 1, because it is the page immediately before those of the deleted group, instead you suggest the page immediately after, that is the one that has become page 2, however it would be fine like this too

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Hello, Davide78
Thank you for confirming that, I cannot make any promises here, but I will run the idea by the Dev team for consideration.
[Edit]
It has been brought to my attention that after deleting pages, we do not change the selection. The border you see is from the currently "visible" page, and not any sort of selection change occurring. In turn, It does not look likely that this will be changing at this time, but we may make some adjustments to make it clearer which page is "selected" in contrast to which is just the "visible" page.
Kind regards,

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Just an additional thought...
In case you select and delete page 1 and following pages, the newly selected page should be just after it.
In case you select and delete the last page and previous pages, the newly selected page should be just before it.
So, there is no uniform rule.
I agree with Davide78 that the behavior in the current builds of PDF-XChange Editor is somewhat confusing.
The page-number of the last page in the selection becomes the newly selected page after deletion.
I do not see a logic in that.
Kind regards.

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Hello, Willy Van Nuffel
There is no selection change happening, the "view" remains on the same static page number, but the selection, is deleted along with the pages themselves. If for example, in the thumbnails area, you click directl yon page 5 you will navigate the view there, then you click in the border of page 8, and Shift+ click the border of page 2, to "select" those pages without navigating to them, you will still be looking at page 5, then, by deleting those pages, your view will remain on page 5 (now the old page 12), but no pages are "selected" during this action. (Below is an animation, click to play) I hope this helps to highlight how there is no selection going on, and we leave the visible page number intact, since this operation is not making direct changes to that.
Kind regards,

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Thanks Daniel for your explanation.
In your example, page 5 (with image "5") was selected before deleting the pages and after deleting, page 5 is still selected (now the one with image "12"). That is something we understand.
But, what we are asking for is that it would be more logic that, in the case of your example, the page with image "9" would be selected and shown.
Kind regards.
Willy

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Hello, Willy Van Nuffel
I am sorry, but I need to clarify that the "Selection" is not changing, when you push delete, the "selected" pages are removed, and nothing new is being "selected".
Only the "View" is affected by this operation. In my example Page 5 is not selected, it is the current "viewed page", when you delete pages, we do not change the page in focus or the "view" of the pages, that is left as is intentionally. Say theoretically, you have selected 3 different page ranges to delete at once (page 2-5, 10-20, and 320-370) in a 500 page document. Currently you are looking at the glossary at the end of the document, which of these 3 separate ranges would we choose to navigate to?
Having a difference in handling for these cases, compared to single range deletion is both complicated, and inconsistent, leading to more confusion than just picking one method and keeping it steady. Yes, this may be a bit confusing for those using the feature for the first time, but after working with it for a bit, it is easy to get used to, and most importantly, it is consistent in its behaviour.

Re: Current page after deleting pages
Thanks Daniel for the additional explanation.
I understand that the page-number of the "viewed page" before deleting is being used to show the page with the corresponding number after deleting. In case there are less pages left than this number, then the last page of the document is shown.
I also understand that this behavior is not going to be changed in PDF-XChange Editor.
So, for me, discussion closed.
Kind regards.
Willy
