I added a button "Set Destination from Selection (Assign the selected area as the new destination for the bookmark)" to the "Named Destinations" sidebar and assume that after selecting text in the document, clicking on this button will create a Destination linked to the selected text. However, the button is disabled.

The document is not password protected, the text is live and editable.

I assume that this button does not activate an action, but toggles a state. That is, it represents a setting. Am I right?
After selecting a text, the "Set Destination from Selection" button is locked SOLVED

Hello Jensen Head,
To make an "Area selection" you need to use the snapshot tool. Once you have such an area on the page - the Set destination from selection will be active.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello, Jensen Head
Not broken, It seems you have customized your UI and removed some of the buttons that should be present.
Currently, you are looking at the tool to "set" (or "change") the target location for an existing "Destination", but there are no Destinations available or selected to apply this action to. You should be using the " add destination" button instead: Alternatively, once a destination exists, you can then use the tool you are currently looking at, to set the destination based on the selection.
Kind regards,

Re: After selecting a text, the "Set Destination from Selection" button is locked
Fortunately, assuming that each user can fully customize the app's interface, we use the exact English names of text and commands in forum discussions. As in the case I cited in my previous post.Daniel - PDF-XChange wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:14 pmIt seems you have customized your UI and removed some of the buttons that should be present.
This command ("Set Destination from Selection" — this is exactly what we've been discussing here since 2024-10-23) has a tooltip that can be interpreted as "the selected area after clicking this button will become the new destination." However, there's no specification of which tool to use to select the area. And it's completely unclear that not only should this tool be the screenshot tool, but that you also need to use "New Destination…" first.
I understand that this is likely more clearly stated in the help documentation, as well as elsewhere on this extremely helpful forum. But is this such a complex feature that you need to consult the help system to learn how to use it? It doesn't matter whether other buttons are displayed next to the button for this function, or not.
This issue has been closed as a mistake. I won't create a separate thread for UX & Usability improvements (inconvenient or unclear ones), because everything has already been covered in this thread. If you have a list of requests for improving the clarity of this tool, please add a +1 to it.
Thank you, Stefan, Dimitar and Daniel!
