**disable space to skip pages [Suggestion]
Without pressing any key, and just being on the same page for 10+ minutes , I am suddenly brought to a page 10+ pages after the active page and it happens really quickly (within a second), not stuttering page by page.
I tried bringing up the windows onscreen keyboard to see if some keys were being activated by AutoHotKey or some other program, but it doesn't seem to register any keystrokes.
If it's not my dictation software (LilySpeech) that causes this...
(I checked the manual and there seems to not be any commands that could make the pages jump around... https://lilyspeech.com/dictation-voice-commands/)
I just updated to 292 from an older version, so I'll let you know if the behavior subsides, but I thought I'd report it anyways
NB: After restarting my PC the behavior seems to stop for a while, but it starts again a few hours later... (despite having all the same programs running)

Re: Sudden random page jumps [bug] ?
Hello MedBooster,
If there is no JS code in the file itself - we would not do that movement ourselves, so it is most likely some third party tool that is doing this. You are also the only person reporting this so it's definitely not a common issue.
Could it be that any other tool is e.g. making "mouse clicks"? Maybe one of those clicks lands over the scroll bar of the Editor and that is what takes you to a page further down in your file?
Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: Sudden random page jumps [bug] ?
actually now that I think of it it might be that when I keep the dictation tool on it inputs the text (including space-bars)
so I should try and disable SPACE for skipping pages, how do I do that?

Hello MedBooster,
Yes - if the focus is on the editor, and the space bar 'press' is passed on to the Editor - it will go to the next 'screen' (not necessarily the next page, but rather the next rendering area).
I do not think there is a way to disable that behaviour in the Editor.
How are you inputting the text with that dictation tool - and is the focus over the Editor at the time or over some text input field?
Kind regards,
Stefan

it is automatic and doesn't register whether I am in an input field or not.
I am using Enter and Right arrow to move pages, so I don't need space to do that anyways!

Hello, MedBooster
Does the Dictation software not offer a toggle button to disable voice dictation? I reckon that would be a more appropriate solution to this situation.

Re: Sudden random page jumps [bug] ?
no because I want to keep the tool active as I for example use PDF-XCE with some other software, or to not have to enable/disable the TTS recording every time I select/unselect a typing field!TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 9:24 pm Hello, MedBooster

Hello, MedBooster
I have passed this along to the Dev team for consideration, but I cannot promise any changes will be forthcoming in this area.

Re: Sudden random page jumps [bug] ?
30% of the time you initially have been reluctant it has still been implemented, sooo fingers crossed.
Further attempt of convincing you:
It is actually not pressing the space-bar that skips the page in some cases, but rather releasing it again.
It's great, sometimes, but other times it's best to have the option to disable it and just use the Space bar for what it's meant for; creating spaces, and keyboard shortcuts with modifier keys in my case.

Re: Sudden random page jumps [bug] ?
Hello, MedBooster
Indeed, there is always a chance, but it is not me who needs convincing. The Dev team calls the shots. I pass everything along to them as soon as I have enough of an understanding of the topic to make a case for it, even if I personally do not see merit in it. (I just like to be open with my estimations of a tickets likelihood).
In short, I much prefer it when I can say "Probably not..." and then turn around later and say "Actually we found a way to do it!"
Opposed to saying "That will definitely happen" and then months down the road needing to follow up with a "sorry, we actually realized that its not possible" (or even worse, promising it'll happen, and then coming back to say "we decided not to do it, even though its possible).
What happens after ive passed it on is up to them. So at this point, we can only wait and see.

Re: **disable space to skip pages [Suggestion]
Greetings;
This is not a 'solution,' but an observation:
I may be a pain, but right now: the workaround is holding down the [space bar] for, say...., about 400 ms
May this be of Good Help;

VOTE: (+1) to disable [space bar] as skip to next/previous page view.
This control could be enabled for when autoscroll is active (or a locked document).
This is not a 'solution,' but an observation:
- Pressing the [space] will cause the cursor to change to the pan/hand icon for a split second, and will then jump the view down
- If you HOLD the [space bar] down, the pan/hand tool will be selected; releasing it will not jump the view.
- Pressing [Shift] + [space] will cause the view to jump up.
- Reassigning Keyboard shortcuts to [space] has no effect

Re: **disable space to skip pages [Suggestion]
thanks for your observations
with holding space activating the hand tool I ESPECIALLY don't get why space should move to the next space (when ENTER already does the same) .
SPACE alreaady has so many functions,
Please remove space for next page, or at least add an option for it.
maybe just in presentation (full-screen mode) it would make some sense to keep it, but not in editing mode...

Re: **disable space to skip pages [Suggestion]
Hello, MedBooster
Space proceeds to the next "view", scrolling by nearly the exact height of your current view window on the document. Enter, specifically goes to the start of the next page. They are different actions, and both have requisite critical uses. Both are also kept on these functions due to key accessibility, these are clear and common functions tied to these keys in numerous applications.
I am sorry but we do not have the Development resources to target fix problems caused by a users desire to not change an option in a third party software. I cannot deny that such an option could have some other uses, however, you two are the only users requesting this currently.
Hopefully we can see much more user demand, but until then, I am sorry to say this suggestion has been rejected.
