Sometimes will PDF-X Change divide upp images in sections. Why is it so and can it be avoided?

Hello, nils-olof

May I ask how the file was created? There is nothing the Editor can do an already existing file which would result in this, it would have to be during the creation process.
If the file is generated by printing to one of our printer, this means they are providing the file in that format to the printer. This can sometimes happen when printing from our Editor to a virtual printer (and is one of the reasons we try to emphasize that printing PDF to PDF is never advisable, as it can damage and fragment your content).
If you did create the by printing from our Editor to a virtual printer, such as our own Standard or Lite printer, please do not do that. Instead, use the "Save as" function to make a proper PDF copy of the file without overwriting the original.

If it was created by a third party software, such as Web browsers or CAD applications (both commonly do this) I am afraid you will need to contact their support to find out if that application offers any way to prevent this. It is fairly commonly used as a method to reduce the strain on a physical printer during the print job, as they tend to have far less memory available than the computer sending the job does.

Hi!

This occurs when I convert to PDF/X-1a. The original pdf comes from Word.
But not all pictures. Only pictures that has a large area on the page.
Consequently: If a certain image has a small area on the page it will reamain in one piece.
But if I enlarge the same image on the page it will be divided in many sections.
Sometimes the hole page is coverted to sections. See enclosed pdf.

At the same time, the pdf file becomes 10 times larger.

Hello nils-olof,

Can you please also share with us the actual PDF before and after saving it to PDF/X so that we can ask our devs to take a look?

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello, nils-olof

Thank you for passing these along. I have discussed this with our Lead developer, and it seems that I was wrong in my initial statement. During conversions to special formats, in cases where there are specific "rules" about the content type, sometimes the Editor is able to convert items in this way. Looking at this file, and you mention of PDF/X-1a specifically, it seems that some part of these image/shape objects cannot be retained in their original format during the conversion, forcing a rasterization and split for conformance reasons.

We will investigate if this is strictly necessary in this case, and make adjustments where possible for a future release. For now, I am afraid that this is simply a part of the PDF/X-1a conversion (and may also happen in other special format conversions).
