Opening PDFs from Opera

Post by Giraffe »

This works - in fact, with a new installation of XP Pro slipstreamed with SP3 it's so fast that I've ditched Foxit.

Just one point: the opened PDF gives a default directory for saving of ...\Program Files\Opera9\profile\cache4\temporary_download, necessitating a change every time. It would be useful to have the selected default directory as first choice (and have a SaveAs button - or the Save button active).

If you click the save icon on the plugin's toolbar the default Save in directory is "My Documents."

Opera's own Save As.. command (Control S) will offer to save the file in whichever folder you last used to save a file.

So I don't see any problem here. Most users will ready many PDF files while online, but they won't necessarily want to save them all, so the temporary downloads folder is the right place to put them. If that's the way you want to work, then use save target as.. and load the PDF from your saved copy.

I've just had a couple of PDFs where there was no choice: click on the link (it's not to the PDF), a new window blank window opens and then the PDF opens with its location in temporary downloads.

Yes the Temp d/l folder is the logical one initially, it's just that the viewer [obviously] goes to this upon Save As and it's not a good place for it!

I can't use Save As in Opera if the file isn't available for direct download.
