Open document in new window sometimes

Post by Loki@99 »

Hi,

My issue is that sometimes I want to open a file in the same window and sometimes in another one.

I can't find a way to solve it as Open document in a new window is a setting in Preferences.

As I said, I want to choose how PDFXCE open a document (in the same window/ in another window) depending on the file.

For my workflow, I have for e.g
- One PDFXCE window which contains clinical documents
- Another window for surgical procedures

Maybe I missed an already existing feature.

An option to open in a new window here is likely what I'm looking for

Hi,

It is not exactly what you are looking for, but you can open a PDF in the same window and then right-mouse-click on its tab and click "Move Tab to New Window".

After that, you have two separate windows. If you then open your following documents from within the concerning-one of the two "PDF-XChange Editor"-windows, your problem would be solved, no ?

Kind regards.

Thanks for your input.

I was aware of that workaround.

Just wondering if there's a more intuitive way.

I am also wondering how you are going to tell at PDF-XChange Editor to open a PDF in the same window or in a new window.

Maybe it is an idea to offer such in option in the "Open Files"-dialog-box ?

@PDF-XChange Support
Would such an option be possible ?

Kind regards.

Hello, Loki@99

Unfortunately, there is not. Intuition can only go so far, and without adding some additional levels of input required from everyone for such actions (or further cluttering the UI with new options, reducing usability), there is no commonly effective/understood way for a user to communicate to the software that a file they are opening is intended to open in a new frame of the software.

Manually creating a second frame, either with the option willy mentioned, or by opening the file and then dragging the document tab out of the current editor frame, to make a new one appear will probably be the best ways to achieve this.
