Missing context menu entries (V6+Win11)
Hello,
I changed my OS to Windows 11 64-Bit and install my old version 6 of PDF-Xchange Editor (paid version). It works well, but I miss the context menu entries "Open with PDF-Xchange Editor" and "Merge with PDF-Xchange Editor".
Because my scanner deliefers only JPG's, I need the second one to simple merge a lot of pictures to one PDF.
Is there a solution to add the entries?
Kind regards

Hello miku8872,
Welcome to our forums!
That is a "feature" of Win11 - MS decided to change the context menu, and are now showing a "shortened" version. If you click on the "Show more options" at the bottom of that context menu - it should change to show you the previous style menu and the "Open with PDF-XChange Editor" will be there.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your quick answer.
Yes, I checked this way too, but the entries are missing. In the company I worked with version 10, here I find the two entries in the "additional" context menu.
Do you have another idea?
Kind regards
Micha

Hello miku8872,
The entry is there for me, however I did upgrade my Win 10 to Win 11, so maybe it is a remnant from Win 10.
Have you made sure to restart your machine after the install so the installation and integration with various menus can complete fully?
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Yes, after the full installation (last month) I made more than one restart, but the entries are still missing.
Incidentally, I had completely reinstalled my OS. Are there some parameters in the registry which I could change to bring back the menu entries?
Kind regards
Micha

Hello miku8872,
There probably are such registry entries, however I am not aware of the same. I can ask our devs, however given that you are asking for an older V6 - I am not sure they would be able to help either. Have you tried also deploying the current latest version of the Editor - does that add the needed context menu entries for you?
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Unfortunately, I don't have a licence for V10, as I've got by with V6 so far. The costs for the update are too high for me, I don't use the program that often.
Thanks for your help anyway. Maybe I can find something suitable in the freeware area.
Best regards
Micha

Re: Missing context menu entries (V6+Win11)
Hello, miku8872
I am sorry to hear we could not help. Sadly, it is not exactly possible to promise that a version which has not been updated to modern standard in 8+ years, will continue to work on the latest operating system. While our latest releases are updated quickly to match changes being made on that end, the older versions do not get compatibility updates of the like.
Ideally, if you need to use an older version of our software, you should be using a version of windows which was available during its development, to ensure things work as intended.

Re: Missing context menu entries (V6+Win11)
Hello Daniel,
Everything is fine, thank you very much for your support.
I am aware that an older program no longer necessarily works with the latest operating system. I was just hoping that there might be a solution for the missing extended context menu.
I use V10 very intensively at work and I'm really happy with it. After I also saw yesterday that I can use the current version for private users for an unlimited period of time (without updates after 12 month maintenance), I will probably also buy this version for private use.
Best regards
Micha

Hi,
Did you already try to re-register the PDF-XChange shell-extensions via
C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions\XCShInfoSetup.exe
Set everything to PDF-XChange and click Apply.
Also verify if there are no "blocked" extensions.
After closing the dialog-box, restart your computer and try again.
Kind regards.

Hi,
Sorry for the late response, but I was on holiday for few days.
I checked the given path, but I only find the following files:
* PDFProperties.propdesc
* XCShInfo.dll
Is it possible to send me the EXE file?
Kind regards

Hi,
In case of PDF-XChange Editor V6, you have to manually register the XCShInfo.dll
See: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... extensions
= open a CMD prompt as Administrator and run following instructions (in the red rectangle):

Re: Missing context menu entries (V6+Win11)
Hello,
I hope that Willy's suggestion helps, V6 is quite the dated version of our software, and so I cannot promise that it will work properly in a win11 environment. If these steps do not help, updating our software to a newer version may be the only other solution.
