Crop Pages - Preview is mixed up

Post by mbode »

The mouse dialogue in the preview of Crop Pages is mixed up. Changing the crop size by moving the borders always moves the wrong side which is anti-clockwise. Also moving the crop area itself works wrong.

Funny challenge to define the crop area with this wrong mouse behaviour but I hope this is corrected soon.

Hmm.. Yes, not very easy to use, but you missed one vital piece of information. This bug only manifests if the page is rotated.

You are absolutely right. That's the key point: The frames in the preview window always behave as if the page was not rotated. E.g.: If the page is rotated 180° the frame behavior is turned upside down.

I had tested the bug at two other PDFs before posting it here. They all must have been rotated PDFs. With a new file the crop feature works correctly.

The crop frames in the preview still don't work correctly in the latest release 2.0039.2 for rotated pdf pages. It works fine for original pdfs (portrait). My first post was referring to 2.0037 and I didn't want to be impatient in 0038. I would really appreciate however, if this could be fixed.

I have also not found any information on the other frames in the crop window (Bleed, Trim and Art box). Possibly their function is more obvious to native speakers, the German version doesn't help here. What is their function and can they perhaps be combined? I would appreciate if you could point me to a link.

Thanks, M.

We just missed this bug item into our database, sorry.
Will fix in the next release.

About different type of boxes. here is a snippet from the PDF Reference:
• The crop box defines the region to which the contents of the page are to be clipped (cropped) when displayed or printed. Unlike the other boxes, the crop box has no defined meaning in terms of physical page geometry or intended use; it merely imposes clipping on the page contents. However, in the absence of additional information (such as imposition instructions specified in a JDF or PJTF job ticket), the crop box determines how the page’s contents are to be positioned on the output medium. The default value is the page’s media box.
• The bleed box defines the region to which the contents of the page should be clipped when output in a production environment. This may include any extra bleed area needed to accommodate the physical limitations of cutting, folding, and trimming equipment. The actual printed page may include printing marks that fall outside the bleed box. The default value is the page’s crop box.
• The trim box defines the intended dimensions of the finished page after trimming. It may be smaller than the media box to allow for production-related content, such as printing instructions, cut marks, or color bars. The default value is the page’s crop box.
• The art box defines the extent of the page’s meaningful content (including potential white space) as intended by the page’s creator. The default value is the page’s crop box.

Great, thanks for fixing the bug.

Thank you also for the extract from the help PDF. I must admit, I obviously did not check the latest help file. I had done searches in this forum however and in a previous PDF. Thanks again!
