Enhance PDF feature is lacking

Hello,

We switched our company from Adobe to PDF-XChange and have been quite happy with it so far. However, recently we did run into one issue that had us missing Adobe.

Occasionally, we have to deal with scanned PDFs or photos of documents. Previously we used Adobe's "Enhance camera image" feature (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/enhance-camera-images.html) which could clean up artifacts in the image and enhance the background to remove yellowing and make it white. There are also many other tools online (both free and paid) which are quite good at this.

Naturally, we want to be able to do this in PDF-XChange as well. So we looked into the "Enhance Scanned Pages" feature (https://help.pdf-xchange.com/pdfxp10/in ... es_ed.html). We have tried this feature with all kinds of different settings and just can't get a result anywhere near as good as Adobe or even free online tools can. See attached example showing the difference in performance.

Are we missing something? Is there a different feature of PDF-XChange we should be using? If not, I would ask that you please prioritize improving this feature to be on par with the other products on the market.

Thanks,
Sam

Hello, vcit

Using these settings, I was able to get a "potentially" better result than we previously had:

To be specific, the option which does the heavy lifting here is the "Background Removal - Auto" (which has greater variance than the low/medium/high manual options have, and is generally the correct option to use).

That said, in comparison to Adobe, there is certainly still room for improvement:

As such, I am passing this up the chain for further review, and hopefully we can see more improvement in the future.

Kind regards,

Dan,

Thanks for the reply.
Please see attached another example, where I tried using your settings. While it appears to clean it up, it also outright deletes portions of the document, which is not acceptable. Furthermore, when zooming in you can see that it significantly degrades the text. I have tried with many different combinations of the settings and this is the best I could get. Some of the settings I tried almost completely deleted the content of the document (e.g., background removal medium).

It appears that the feature can work under some conditions but is not nearly as consistent or reliable as others on the market.

Thank you for pushing this up the chain. This is a very important feature for us.

Hello, vcit

In this case it seems that the 2D perspective correction is the root of the missing content, I am unsure why this has happened, but disabling that option does help notably. In any case, as you said, this is not at all ideal, and I have again passed this up the chain for development review.

[Edit[ I have created the following ticket for this case:
RT#7472: Enhance Scans, Quality and missing content
Like all tickets this is an internal tracking number, but you can request an update on the progress in the future by citing this ticket number to any member of the support team.
