Restore last session when application starts

Post by squiggles2025 »

I have the box ticked to "Restore last session when application starts"

However this morning the restore didn't work for some reason.
There were no tabbed files there when I opened the PDF-Xchange editor

I do a daily backup of my C drive so I can go back at any time for previous versions of C drive

Where can I go within the C drive backup to find the files that I had open on my previous session(s) of PDF-Xchange editor ?

Thanks

Hello, squiggles2025

This option will only have data to restore if:
1. You had saved document opened at the time of closing the app (If the documents have not been saved and you do not actively choose to save them before closing, this can interrupt the process of recording last session data).
2. The application was able to close without errors, like the above, or a system crash.

If you have manually closed all of your documents before closing the editor window, than this would be expected.
Beyond that, some tasks Windows performs, including system updates, can force close the Editor without allowing us to record previous session data, resulting in either no session opening, or opening the prior recorded session data.

That being said, The session data is stored in your current user registry but it is only recorded at the time of closing the app.
Generally speaking, it would be considerably more work to load a restore point, and try to locate if the specific key you need even exists, to extract it and bring it back to the current state of your drive.
Since this did not load, it is safe to assume that something prevented us from writing the last session data, and there would not be anything to recover if you tried.

[Edit]
As a followup, it is quite possible as well, that a third party app, such as cleaning or other security adjacent softwares offer Registry cleaning options, and they may have deleted this key, even after we create it properly. If you use any tools like CCleaner, which are known registry cleaners, please do whitelist our registry keys and all subkeys, here:
  • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Tracker Software
