Snap feature for Link objects

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

The snapping feature is gradually being implemented for a variety of objects, but only the link object is completely untouched.

For example, if it were possible to pre-snap to the grid when first setting up a link, then in some cases there would be no need to go to the Arrange tab to fine-tune the link after it has been set up.

If this request has already been submitted, I would like to vote in favor of the proposal.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

I believe that this was somewhat intentional, as the link object is invisible by default, its "physical dimensions" are less critical to be pixel perfect, and by extension, snapping, especially in text content areas (where links typically go), can be more than a little bit annoying, especially if a user has set snapping sensitivity to high, since each letter can be seen as a bundle of snapping points.

The main situation in which I see a benefit for your proposal, is when adding links to "table" structured areas, so it certainly has some merit, but offering a "best of both" in this situation would be rather difficult...

I will pass this along for consideration, but I cannot promise a change will be forthcoming in this area.

Hello Daniel, thank you for creating the ticket!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to let me know the results of your review.

I have never thought about making links snap to the base content text. Even in its current state, comments do not snap to the base content text, so even if links were to support snapping, I would not want any more functionality than that.

I often write notes or reference pages in the margins as comments that are not clear from the text of the document alone, and set links to them. Therefore, there is often no base content text under the link, which is why I do not consider the display of the text column in the link pane as important, as I have commented on this topic. In these uses, the link borders are often actively displayed. Perhaps it is these unusual uses that lead to different demands than normal users.

I know that is a niche demand, and I know it is extremely low priority, but I hope that one day light will be shed on it.

Please give my best regards to the developer.

Best regards,
rakunavi
