I can't copy and paste annotations.

Post by ChGo »

Hello everyone.

-I'm using version 10.5.2 Build 395 and was able to use the feature a few days ago.

-I can't copy annotations from one document in PDF-XChange and paste them into another document, or into the same document (Ctrl-C, or Ctrl-X and Ctrl-V).

-The documents aren't locked.

-Exporting and importing annotations works.

-Holding down Ctrl and dragging the annotation works the same way as copying/pasting within a document, but I can't copy anything into another document. I always have to export/import for that.

-Only elements from the "Annotations" tab are affected, as far as I can see. I can copy and paste external screenshots into the clipboard. However, if I copy the screenshot again in the document, I can no longer paste it.

Troubleshooting with the AI has provided the following additional information for you:

1) Is the correct mode active?
I can select the annotations with the "Edit Annotations" tool and successfully cut them using Ctrl+X, but now when I press Ctrl+V, I can't paste anything. When I right-click, I can't select "Paste" either. It's as if my clipboard is empty.

2) Did I copy and paste correctly?
I already did it correctly. I also check this by pressing Ctrl+X, so the annotation disappears and I know it should be on the clipboard.

3) Do I have multiple PDFs open in tabs?
I can't paste more than once within the same document.

4) PDF version or formatting issue?
There shouldn't be any formatting issues within the same document.

5) Is the software version up to date?
I'm using version 10.5.2 Build 395. My office neighbor uses the same, and the "Copy/Paste" option works without any problems.

6) Text elements can be copied and pasted without any problems using the "Edit Text" tool.

I think the problem lies in the annotation settings, but I can't find anything.

7) Resetting the user settings under "File" -> "Manage Settings" -> "Reset Settings" completely destroyed my profile, but it didn't solve my problem.

I'm currently waiting for a reinstallation from our IT department and hope this will resolve the issue.

I hope one of you has an idea what I can do. I can use Ctrl-C/Ctrl-X, and Ctrl-V in a roundabout way, but I hope we can all agree that this function is incredibly convenient and very inconvenient when it involves a roundabout way.

Regards,
ChGo

Hello ChGo,

Welcome to our Forum.

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

May I ask for more details about the problem you are facing?

Please tell me what exactly is happening when you try to copy or paste something in our software?
Are the Copy/Paste buttons inactive, or they just do not do anything?

Also, please tell me if you tried to copy something from another application like Word and Notepad, and what was the exact result?

Additionally, did you try to Copy/paste a base content component within the same PDF file and between PDF files, and what was the result?

May we ask for a short video that indicates the problem?

Furthermore, may I ask you to run this app, and check if there is anything in the clipboard at all, when you try to copy/paste something within our PDF Editor:

https://freeclipboardviewer.com

And one more question.

May I ask if your computer is connected to a company network/server, or it is an unmanaged standalone workstation?

Regards.

They are active but the Past button becomes inactive after Copying a "Anmerkungen"-Element.
Also, please tell me if you tried to copy something from another application like Word and Notepad, and what was the exact result?
I can copy screenshots from ShareX into the Documents. When the Screenshot is inside the Document i cant copy the Screenshot inside the Document anymore.
Additionally, did you try to Copy/paste a base content component within the same PDF file and between PDF files, and what was the result?
As you can see in the Video im able to copy Texts, but i cant copy elements from the "Anmerkungen"
May we ask for a short video that indicates the problem?
Should be a attached to this post as a gif.
Furthermore, may I ask you to run this app, and check if there is anything in the clipboard at all, when you try to copy/paste something within our PDF Editor:
seems like my Clipboard gets cleaned by "Anmerkungen"-Elements
May I ask if your computer is connected to a company network/server, or it is an unmanaged standalone workstation?

Hello,

Do you know that there also exists a "portable version" of PDF-XChange Editor ?
This version can be run alongside the existing classic version, without problem.

What you can try, is download the corresponding ZIP-file (= Editor Portable Version, 32-bit or 64-bit) from:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/pdf-xchange-editor

After downloading, unzip the file to an empty folder and start "PDFXEdit.exe" from there.

Do you still see the problem or has it gone ?

Kind regards.

Hello Willy Van Nuffel,

Thanks for your suggestion!
We've noticed this issue on Citrix, however ChGo claims that a Citrix environment is not involved in their case, so I've asked our devs to take a look at this case!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi, guys,

I have now one case reported under Azure. Is this case using an Azure Virtual Desktop?
Best regards

Ive just tried starting a citrix session and copy/past in there and it worked. Some of my applications use citrix in the background.

No, Azure is not used in our company.

I found a Citrix connection. When i restart my Computer i can use Copy/Paste without a Problem.

But as soon as i start my invoicing program "Auer Success" it opens a Citrix Session in the background, and from that point onwards i cant use Copy/Past anymore.

There we have our connection to Citrix, but what am i supposed to do now?

Hello ChGo,

Thank you for provided information.

Our developers are currently investigating why is this happening, and what exactly is the relation of Citrix and the problem our PDF Editor is facing.

It seems that this is happening only under the latest version of Citrix but not the previous one.

The current workarounds are downgrading the Citrix to the previous version or not running it along with the PDF Editor.

Also, another user reported this:
A day ago everything was working fine and suddenly, out of nowhere, I can now copy and paste via select ctrl, double left click, but I can't copy and paste via ctrl+c/ctr+v.
It seem that the latest version of Citrix, is remapping somehow some of the PDF Editor default functions.

Hello,
Is there any update about this problem?

We have multiple users reporting this problem.
Downgrading the Citrix Workspace client isn't possible due to problems in the previous version regarding disconnections.
We also use a lot of desktops & published apps, so Citrix is constantly active.

Tnx!

One company reported that a new minor build of Citrix, fixed this problem, but the their developers has not yet officially confirmed this.

May I ask you all to check if a new version of Citrix is available to you?

Regards.
