Request: Replace pages - sort open documents above recent

When I try to replace pages, I consistently run into two issues with the drop-down to select the new documents
a) It causes extreme lag with my mouse until I click 'clear recents,' and
b) I collapse the 'recents' section so that only open documents appear, but it always auto-selects the top document in the recents list, even when the section is collapsed.

I completely understand that removing the option to select recent documents from the drop-down isn’t the plan. However, if you could introduce an option to sort open documents above recents in the drop-down, it would make the replace pages function so much smoother and more efficient.

I have raised this with the Dev team for consideration. I think the "recent" list appearing at the top of the list might be an intended design choice, since repeated page replacement will often take place with a file that is not currently opened, but Incase that is the situation, I added some ideas that might help. One being the possibility of just "remembering" if the recent or opened files lists are expanded or collapsed between uses of this menu. That alone could allow users to choose which they want to see consistently.

So far it looks like the recent list will be staying atop the opened list, but the discussion is ongoing.

With that said, the Devs did latch onto something else here. Since this recent list only holds 10 records, there should not be any circumstances where its use results in "extreme lag" as you mentioned.
Could you elaborate on how much of a delay you see, between opening the pane with a full recents list, and how long the process takes if you clear the recent list, then close and re-open the replace pages dlg and do the same?

After testing that, I have also included below a registry key you can use (unzip and run the *.reg file), to change the maximum number of items in the list to 2, instead of 10. This may help to address the speed issue, but should also help mitigate recent items burying the opened files.

Hi Daniel, I looked into what causes my mouse to lag when replacing pages and it is when the 'recent' file at the top of the drop down has been deleted or is no longer in the location it is checking. When that happens, it makes my mouse 'shudder' back and forth in the direction I am trying to move it. It pops up a warning triangle in the drop down and says "The system cannot find the file specified". Once I hit escape and clear the recents, it works fine after that. It will do this even if there is only one recent file and it cannot find it.

Are you perchance running an older build of the software? I ask because what you report sounds similar to an error from an older build.
In the new releases no delay should happen, and instead a slightly different popup should appear:

Can I ask you to check for updates and confirm if the issue does still happen in build 396 (or if you are currently running build 396 when you see this)

Yes, I think am on an older build through Doc.it - so that explains the mouse lag issue, not much we can do about it at this point. Thanks for your help!

That will probably be it then, Thank you for checking. If you do ever get around to an up to date version, please let me know if the issue persists there. For now, we are dropping the investigation on this end (no one could reproduce it), but if its still around, we do want to take a look.
