Hello all,
In the Sort Bookmarks function, if you select "Sort bookmarks by referencing page number" as the "Sorting Method," the bookmarks will be sorted by referencing page number, but if the page numbers of the destinations are the same, they will also be sorted alphabetically by bookmark name. It would be appreciated if it could be limited to sorting by referencing page number only.
For example, let's say you have PDF-XChange Editor for page 1, Adobe Acrobat for page 3, Foxit PDF Editor for page 4, and finally PDF Tools for page 2. As shown in the figure below, the destinations of the bookmarks that make up each cohort are all the same page.
The order of each bookmark makes sense, but if you sort them by page number, the bookmark names with the same page number will be sorted alphabetically, which changes the meaning.
Of course, there are various workarounds: if you use PDF-XChange Editor's functionality alone, you can add a sequential number to the beginning of the bookmarks, and then remove the sequential number using a regular expression after sorting, so that the order of bookmark names destined to the same page number is maintained. Alternatively, you can export the bookmarks to a text file, sort them in Excel, etc., and import them back into PDF-XChange Editor to maintain the order.
In the example above, there is no hierarchy of bookmarks for simplicity of explanation, but there are quite a few cases where bookmark names are created with the same page number as the destination, such as Part -> Chapter -> Section. If you are going to claim "Sort bookmarks by referencing page number", I would like to see them sorted based on page number only. If this behavior is your intention and you do not plan to change it, you might want to review the manual description.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
Best regards,
rakunavi
