Well we have agreement to do this.

It definitely will not be in the initial V7 release, leaving the question of "When will this happen?" The intention is to do it in one of the following releases and I am hopeful that it will not more than a build or two after that.

This would be a very useful feature. As the original poster noted, rename is accomplished by closing a file, renaming it, and re-opening it. It is NOT the same as renaming an open file and keeping it open the entire time. So much unnecessary resistance to a very, very good idea. My document scanner saves PDF files as document (1), document (2), and I don't always get a chance to rename them according to their content at the moment I am scanning. I come back and open each one and then rename them. I can't tell exactly what they are from thumbnails. This feature would help tremendously.

Hope to see it sooner rather than later.

FWIW, I've written software in C++ under Windows and linux. Its just a matter of understanding what the users are asking for and not getting bogged down on why you don't think they should ask for it. The Mozilla team still doesn't appreciate why users want to right click and print web pages. I am grateful that the Tracker Software developers are not as hostile to users.

I've read the recent change logs of PDF-XChange Editor and couldn't locate mentioning of the highly anticipated hotkey assignable (F2) rename feature.

Has the rename feature been implemented already?

Hello ramos, I am sorry about the long wait, It seems that this old feature has been missed. Paul and Myself have brought this to the Dev team and they have said they will begin working on it again.
Of course it is not a high priority with our new build coming out in a few days, we are focused on testing and bug fixing before the release.

For the sake of completeness, I would like to note that both the function of renaming an opened document [1] and the function of moving an opened document [2] are implemented in the current version of the application, regardless of everything that was written about these functions in this topic.

[1] Rename… (changes the filename of the document to the specified one)
[2] Move File… (move the active document to the specified location)

Yep and all this although both of these features are completely impossible to implement due to limitations that are hard-coded into Windows (which even is TRUE, for that matter), as some guy was told 11 years ago when proposing this feature for the first time

Using it every single day dozens of times btw.
