How to open document links in existing tab?

Post by JDStrauch »

Hi! I am using the latest free version of Xchange editor on a Windows 11 laptop. I am a grad student who needs to take detailed notes on documents, and I like to have an open workspace where I can create links to important passages in the document I am reading. Since xchange editor doesn't have a liquidtext-like workspace, I have found a workaround by screenshotting relevant passages, pasting them all together in a blank document, and then creating links on top of them that take me to the relevant passage. If there is a simpler way to do this, please let me know!

That said, if there is not a simpler way, my question is this: is there a way to force links to other documents to use the existing tab I already have open? The fact that the links open a completely new tab every time makes this system extremely slow and inconvenient.

Thank you in advance!

Hello, JDStrauch

in the preferences menu, under "general > setup" you can enable the "open related documents > in the same tab" function to force this for any links which were created to "respect user preferences":

A link created to work with this setting should have this option enabled:
