Hi, I am attempting to fill a pdf form from csv data. In order to do that I assume the process is as follows:
1. export fields (names?) from the form.
2. create a csv file with the field names as a header lien and data in following lines.
3. import the csv data to a filllable form.
However I cannot seem to find a way to export the fields.
The form in question is this one: https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/cra-arc/formspubs/pbg/t2202/t2202-fill-24e.pdf
Using: PDF XChange Editor Plus version 10.5.2

Re: how to export fields from pdf
Hello, tpventure
You have some extra steps in there that are not necessary. The "export form data" function inherently creates the CSV file for you, with the appropriate header and field content data in place, no need to manually do step 2, unless you are planning to use the "populate forms" tool (which can take multiple lines of input from a CSV, and turn each line into a different filled PDF file).
As for the form you have mentioned here. This form users special "XFA" formatting, which disables a number of features, and it also has password security, which could have a secondary impact. To my knowledge, We do not yet support import or export of data in XFA forms however, so that is the most likely culprit. If possible, you could likely reach out to the CRA, and request a copy which does not use XFA formatting, to see if they are able to provide one which you can use with this function.
Kind regards,

Re: how to export fields from pdf
Where do I find the populate forms tool you mention?
In my version of PDF-Tools I do not have such a function.
I was hoping there was a way to IMPORT a CSV file that has one line per pdf to be filled in.
So I assume the only way to do this was too export the field names so as to be able to have a header in the csv for that field.
I am not hopeful that CRA will provide another pdf without that XFA stuff!

Hi,
In your first post in this topic, you mentioned to be using PDF-XChange Editor Plus.
It is in the Forms-toolbar of PDF-XChange Editor Plus that you can find the "Populate Forms"-tool, not in PDF-Tools.
Unfortunately, this tool will not work with the XFA form in your reference.
Kind regards.

Hello Willy Van Nuffel,
Thanks for your assistance!
And indeed - XFA forms are not yet fully covered in our products.
Kind regards,
