I have found that when links are selected from the results filtered by keywords in the Links pane, previous selections are also unintentionally included. Please see the following verification procedure for details.
Verification procedure
Step 0
- The sample file contains 10 red, 20 green, and 30 blue text items as base content. Each text is surrounded by links with black borders. In other words, there are 60 link annotations in total.
- Open the Links pane and filter by the keyword "red" to show a total of 10 links. Then select all 10 links by clicking at the beginning of these items and Shift+clicking at the end. This is confirmed by the fact that the Info Bar at the bottom of the Links pane will show "10 items selected". Finally, change the link border color from the Format tab to red, which will change all the link borders around the 10 red text items to red, as intended.
- Next, filtering by the keyword "green" will show a total of 20 links. Next select all 20 links by clicking at the beginning of these items and Shift+clicking at the end. This is confirmed by showing "20 items selected" in the Info Bar at the bottom of the Links pane. Finally, from the Format tab, change the color of the link borders to green. However, not only the 20 items selected, but also the 10 items selected in Step 1 are changed to green.
- Next, filtering by the keyword "blue", a total of 30 links are shown. Next, click at the beginning of these items and Shift+click at the end to select all 30 links. This is confirmed by showing "30 items selected" in the Info Bar at the bottom of the Links pane. Finally, from the Format tab, change the color of the link borders to blue. However, not only the 30 items selected, but also all 60 items, including the 10 items selected in Step 1 and the 20 items selected in Step 2, are changed to blue.
- After removing the filtering keywords, you can see that a total of 60 links have been selected. This can be confirmed by showing "60 items selected" in the Info Bar at the bottom of the Links pane.
However, many users might expect the above procedure to produce the following results.
Final thoughts
I just reported a similar issue with the Comments pane in the following topic.
- After filtering in Comments pane, right-clicking on group title may bring up Context menu based on unintended selection
