Difficulty using interactive form

Post by ugradedeveloper »

I am using XChange Viewer build 37.2 and am having some troubles with a document containing an interactive form. This document was created using Adobe Acrobat 5.0. It has a series of radio buttons in groups of three; one button can be selected in each group. As the user changes the selections, it updates a set of totals that appear in the bottom right. The problems I am having are twofold.

First, clicking a radio button sometimes has no effect; sometimes leads to an inconsistent state in which the previous button remains checked but the clicked button also appears checked.

Second, sometimes the counts at the bottom are not updated.

I am included the document in question (zipped). I wonder if your developers experience the same problems with this document, and if so, whether they are fixable.

Thank you for making this wonderful product and for always trying to improve it!!

Lewis

I have been unable to replicate the problem on my machine, I have tested most of the radio buttons a number of times and it appears to give the same results as if it was opened in adobe.

If you have any further information that might help me then please let me know.

Hm... I did some more testing and this issue does appear to be confined to my workstation. The problem does not occur on other computers where I have tested. So, I guess I won't worry about it, it seems safe to bet that my users will not have any difficulties.

Thanks for checking into this!!

Can you send report via "Report a Problem" command from Help menu? It will allow me to see you settings and OS parameters. Thanks.

I have done some more testing and have discovered that the problem occurs on some computers, but not others which are virtually identical in terms of the OS and software that is installed. My hunch is that it pertains to the physical characteristics of the computer - it seems to be the older ones, with CPU speed below 2 GHz, that manifest the problem.

My company is probably going to purchase the PDF-XChange Viewer SDK. This difficulty with the interactive form is going to require some programming work so that we can provide a workaround to our users. Have the Tracker developers been able to reproduce this problem? Is there any chance of a fix? We would like to know this, if possible, before investing resources in developing the workaround.

Thanks very much.

Hi Lewis,

I am sorry - we have not - if you can provide any more specific info - that would be most useful.

However - please use the option 'Help -> Report a problem so that any info is sent direct to the development team and your system info is also then sent too - which would be most helpful.

thanks

As I mentioned before, it is only on older computers that the problem manifests. I have a limited number of computers available to me for testing, but very roughly it seems that if the CPU speed is less than 2 GHz, then the problem is likely to occur. If you only have the latest generation CPUs in your testing environment then you certainly won't encounter the problem.

Wish I could give more specifics. I hope this helps.

Thanks

I don't know if this makes any difference, but I finally realized that this is a refresh issue. Whenever the state of the buttons does not seem to be updating, if I scroll to another page and back up (or minimize and restore the window), everything appears as it should.
