Is it possible to pass a parameter into the security settings of a document in PDF-Tools in order to set a dynamic psw?

Post by kagen.yu »

I would like to ask whether it is possible to pass a parameter into the security settings of a document in PDF-Tools in order to set a dynamic password at runtime. Specifically, I’m looking for a way to programmatically insert a password (e.g., from a variable or input) when applying security settings to a PDF.

Is this supported in PDF-Tools? If so, could you please provide guidance or documentation on how to achieve this?If not, is there any workaround for it? Thank you in advance.

Hello, kagen.yu

I am afraid not, and the odds of us offering such an option are very slim as it puts us in a position where the password was not specifically "created" by the user, and if they mishandle the process, we cannot help to recover the file.

Any passwords set, whether by the Editor or PDF-Tools, must be manually defined in full, to ensure that you as the user/creator are actively aware of what exactly is being set.

Thank you for your reply. I just have a list of passwords and was hoping PDF-Tools could handle the task. Unfortunately, it seems there is no way to accomplish this directly within the software. That said, I believe PDF-Tools is the most capable tool for the job, except for the password part. We are considering purchasing 25–50 licenses. If there is any way to integrate an automatic secure password-setting feature, even via a third-party solution such as RPA, I would be grateful to hear about it. :D
