Duplicate Annotations to All Other Pages

Post by BS2 »

First off, thank you for this great software! This is much better than any other PDF software I have found - and I have tried most of them.

Would it be possible to add a feature to duplicate annotations to all other pages? Currently, duplicating an annotation to "all" pages places a copy over the top of the original annotation. It would be great to have another option that places the copies on all other pages besides the one it came from.

Thanks for the consideration!

Hi, BS2

thanks for the post.

You can do that by selecting a page range and excluding the current page. For my 10 page document:

I hope that helps.

Hello BS2,

One of the great things about PDF-XChange Editor is that there are multiple ways to accomplish the same task, so I'll add another method for reference.

  1. Select the page containing the annotations you want to copy from in the Thumbnails pane.
  2. Select the destination pages by choosing "Select > Invert Selection" from the Thumbnails pane's options menu or context menu to reverse the selection.
  3. Select the annotations to copy using the Select Comments tool.
  4. Open the "Duplicate Annotations" dialog from the "Select > Duplicate" command on the Home tab.
  5. Select "Duplicate to Pages from Range", choose "Selected" as the Pages option, and execute the command.
In the video below, the two annotations on page 10 have been copied to other pages. This corresponds to specifying “-9,11-” in the custom field, as Paul mentioned in the comment.

Thanks for the replies and the ideas.

My current workflow is to select the annotation (a stamp) and duplicate to all pages. This places a duplicate annotation over the original. I then select it and delete. It is simple enough. But I do this regularly enough that it would be great to have the option to not have to remember to do the deletion. I have this setup with a keyboard shortcut.

The first time I did this it surprised me that it duplicated the annotation and there was no option to apply to all other pages so that each page has an "identical" annotation. The duplicate definitely affects the appearance. I know the page numbers can be typed in but then I need to count the pages and if the stamp is not on the first page then you would need two ranges.

Anyways, it seemed like a simple enough feature request so I thought I would ask.

Thanks for the help!

Hello, BS2

Thank you for the explanation, I have raised a discussion with the Dev team about perhaps handling this intelligently, based on the other settings.

At the moment, the reason that you see this happen is because the "copies per page" and "offset" options, which exist for cases where you may want to have a handful of copies of the selection on 5 pages, all offset by 20mm. By extension this means (currently) when you choose 1 copy per page, to all pages, that the current page [*]should see another one added.

I don't know if there is way to do so, but I have asked the dev team to consider the possibility of intelligently adjusting this in the background, so that if there is no offset, and you define 1 copy per page, that the original page not see a "duplication" occur. I cannot promise if that is possible, but I will let you know if anything comes of it.

Oh... that behavior makes perfect sense when taken in conjunction with the offset feature. I figured there must be a reason. It would be great if they could adjust this automatically like you described but I understand if it isn't feasible.

Thanks for the help!
