When enabling full-screen mode after jumping to a page via link, extra Alt+Left is required to return back to the source

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

Normally, after clicking a link and the page jumps, pressing the Alt+Left shortcut key navigates back to the source page. However, I discovered that when both of the following conditions are met, if you enable full-screen mode after clicking a link and the page jumps, you must press the Alt+Left shortcut key three times to finally navigate back to the source page:

  • Zoom level is in “Fit Page” mode.
  • Page Display is in non-continuous “Single Page” mode.
In Adobe Acrobat, regardless of whether full-screen mode is active, pressing the Alt+Left shortcut key once navigates back to the source page. PDF-XChange Editor's behavior seems a bit odd.

The sample file used in the following verification has a GoTo link to page 20 on page 10.

  • sample.pdf
The following sequence of operations was performed for both PDF-XChange Editor and Adobe Acrobat:

  1. Display page 10
  2. Click the link on page 10 to jump to page 20
  3. Enable full-screen mode
  4. Press the Alt+Left shortcut key to navigate back to the source page
Note that while Step 4 requires pressing the Alt+Left shortcut key three times in PDF-XChange Editor, it only requires one press in Adobe Acrobat.

Note that while links were used in the above explanation for clarity, they are not required. You can verify the behavior described above even with standard page navigation using only the Page Up and Page Down keys. In any case, when transitioning to full-screen mode, two unnecessary entries from the user's perspective are added to the page navigation history, requiring an extra Alt+Left key press as a result.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello Rakunavi,

Thank you for the report.

I was able to reproduce it, so I forwarded it to our developers for further investigation.

We will keep you posted on any progress on the matter.
