RT#7675: Rasterization Inconsistencies

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

When using the “Rasterize Pages” feature with the type set to “Grayscale” and the page background set to the default transparent color, objects with opacity applied are converted with abnormally low contrast. This issue occurs regardless of the object type. There is a clear difference compared to converting with “Color” selected as the Type. Is this intended behavior?

The following video demonstrates verification across three cases. As always, all settings were reset before testing.

  • Preparation
Create a blank document with 5 pages, then set the page numbers as watermark text in the “Add Watermarks” dialog. By default, a text object with 25% opacity should be added. As mentioned above, this applies to any object where opacity can be set, such as comments or base contents, so there is no particular need to use the watermark feature.
    • Case 1
Run “Rasterize Pages” feature with the type set to “Color” and the page background set to the default transparent color. Confirm that there is no significant change in appearance before and after rasterization.
      • Case 2
Run “Rasterize Pages” feature with the type set to “Grayscale” and the page background set to the default transparent color. Verify that contrast is significantly reduced after rasterization.
        • Case 3
Open the “Export to Image(s)” dialog, specify “None (transparent)” as the page background color, select PNG as the output type, and choose “Gray with Alpha (8bpp)” as the Image Type. Open the exported image file in an image viewer to verify the display.

        • Video.webm
The screen displays in Case 2 and Case 3 should ideally be similar. Why does such a difference occur? Note that if you change the page background color to something other than the default transparent color in the Rasterize Page dialog, the problem does not occur. However, it is strange that setting the page background color to transparent alone causes such a significant difference.
