TOT - Problem accessing this site

Post by BarryH »

Hi all

This is totally off topic, but I couldn't think where else to ask.

Today I have been unable to connect to the Tracket web site, ONLY this site no problems whatsoever with any other site that I viewed.

Tonight I tried to connect using my laptop with my home broadband connection, again unable to connect.

I tried three different browsers, IE7, Opera 9 and Firefox 3

Firefox reported that the "connection was broken" (I realised that!)

And then about 15 minutes ago everything just started working.

I'm mystified. I emailed Tracker this morning and they replied that all seemed OK at their end.

This is the second time in the past month that I've experienced this issue with the site and I just wondered if anyone else had experienced any difficulty connecting?
Best regards
Barry

It is not unusual for sites to be unavailable. I regularly noticed that the Tracker forum was temporarily unavailable, but rarely for very long. The Opera forums are also inaccessible fairly regularly. Providing a forum needs a server, which costs real money. What most users want is free or low cost software. If you want 24/7 uninterrupted service and support, are you willing to pay for it? Even if you paid your $15 to register PDF-XChange, that won't go very far. One email and one reply to this post might cost $3 worth of Tracker support's time.

I agree that it is not unusual for a site to be temporarily unavailable. But, it is unusual for a site to be unavailable for up to 24hrs, which is what happened to me on two occasions over the past fortnight.

And, incidentally, I am happy to pay for software and support when I see value for money. 'Free' software is a novel idea, but you don't get 'owt for nowt!

We are seriously considering changing our hosting – Just lately we have had more and more downtime and access issues.

If as a end user you find it frustrating its even worse for us because all the time it’s down it costs revenue.

As for online support the MD of the firm believes that it’s important to the client and is looking to make sure that it becomes part of the product experience.

No use having a good product and bad support – good support is important to us. :)

Well said, Tom.
Often, before downloading software, I have a look at the site and forums then decide according to helpfulness, support and attention to faults/requests.

Comodo, Avast! and Opera are v. good examples, as indeed is your company, for which many thanks.

And good support is what you have consistently provided me with over the last couple of years.

Thank you.
