PDF-XChange Standard printer can't see standard menus

I've installed PDF-XChange Standard PDF printer into Windows Server 2019 (workstation mode). But I don't see the option to manage print queues (so I can't set it to be the default printer. Allow Windows to manage my default printer is off). This option is not visible to Admins or standard users. I've installed it with the change user command and without, but its the same.
As per screenshot admin has only option to remove printer. Standard users see nothing except the printer. Control Panel sees similar problems.

This also makes it very hard to set the default properties and add license keys to users. I really need it so I can set this to be default printer for our automated scripts.

Hi Damien,

Can you please clarify what you mean by "print queues"? Could you also please share a full screenshot of what you see in the printers & scanners section of the machine in question? If you have the option disabled for allowing windows to manage your default printer, then you should see an option on each of the printer pages to set them as default:

Hi Sean,

This is what I see in the Printers & scanners section

As you can see, I don't get the usual buttons to Open queue or Manage, and double clicking on it does not open it either. I can get around some of these issues by using Print Management but that MMC plugin does not have options to set default printers. (interestingly CutPDF Writer has the same issues).

Control Panel does not give me the options to manage the printer or set default either.

Also, do I need to use the "change user" commands during install to attribute licenses later on correctly to the users on the server?

Hi Damien, thanks.

Please try following these steps to resolve the issue:

1.Uninstall any existing per-user installations.
2. Install PDF-XChange per-machine using change user /install.
3. Verify printer in Print Management.
4. Apply license key in HKLM or deploy via script.
5. Set default printer via command line in scripts.

This approach ensures that all admins, standard users, and automated scripts see and can use the PDF printer reliably. I hope that resolves the issue for you.

Hi Sean,
Sorry been on the road busy.
I have installed as below, but couldn't access the printer properties via the Windows->Settings->Device and Printer menu. But I found that the Manage button still wasn't available. But from Print Management I could open the Printer Queue, and from here I could set the Default Printer, set default printer preferences and set the license key for each user. Why this never came up in any Google search was weird, but now I have the printer installed to our requirements. Thanks.
