[suggestion] Add the "Delete separator" item to the toolbars context menu

Post by Jensen Head »

Currently, when setting up the PDF-XChange Editor toolbars, I am facing the problem of not being able to remove the separator. It does not have its own context menu, like buttons, and the buttons to the left and right of it do not have the option “Delete separator on the right” and “Delete separator on the left,” respectively. Dragging a separator outside the panel to remove it is also not possible. Because of this, I have several separators on the toolbars that I don't need, but they take up space, making the toolbars less compact.

Hi,

The drag action should work though. Maybe you're not doing it the right way.

Hello Loki@99, Jensen,

I can confirm that dragging a separator works both for the top ribbon ones as well as for ones like in the QUick Tools Loki did the GIF for.

Please note that you can drag out custom added separators, and the default ones e.g. at the end of a ribbon category do not seem to be removable:

Also - some precision is required to click on and select the manually added extra separators before you can drag them out :)

Kind regards,
Stefan

I don't know how to differentiate the appearance of default delimiters from user-added delimiters. Some toolbars have separators, other toolbars do not. I understand that the developers, when placing tools in ribbon tabs and toolbars, had some considerations about what logic to follow. But the developers recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all arrangement of tools, and they have made it possible to change the order and composition of panels, available out of the box. However, if the developers decided, for example, to place five separators on each panel, and the user did not want their presence, the user would have only one choice - to create a new panel to replace the old, standard one. Despite the fact that, except for the dividers, the standard panel suited him. This is very strange, as is the very fact of the presence of non-removable separators (sacred cows =).

Hello, Jensen Head

Thank you for the explanation and Gif, I see the issue now, some of the special separators we added, seem to use different logic, while a few other the default ones can be removed, not all of them can...

I will bring this up with our UI team to see what we can do on this. For now, as you said, creating a new replacement toolbar may be the best method to get around this issue.

Kind regards,

Hello, Jensen Head

Much like the default toolbar items are uniquely coded to force the large or small appearance, and special tiling even when the UI's size if not dense enough to need it, these separators are present to ensure/maintain the intended default appearance, and that is why they are not editable.

If you wish to remove them, the best I can recommend is to create a new copy of the toolbar to fit your own needs, and remove/hide the default.
