I have just noticed what I believe is a serious bug in the latest version 10.8.1 Build 406 of PDF-XChange Editor.
When we drag external files from Windows Explorer into an existing PDF document, placing them between existing bookmarks in the Bookmarks panel, the following problem occurs.
The bookmark itself is created at the correct position. That is, it appears exactly between the two bookmarks where the external file was dropped. This goes for PDF files, Word documents, images, etc.
However, the pages of the inserted document are not inserted at that same logical position in the page sequence.
Instead, the pages of the dragged-in document are inserted after the first page belonging to the next bookmark.
So effectively:
- the bookmark order is and remains correct,
- but the drag-inserted object is not placed between the existing bookmarked sections; instead, it confusingly ends up spliced between the pages of the following bookmarked section.
This workflow is something I use constantly, many times per day, and it has worked reliably for a very long time. In the current version, however, this behavior makes the feature unsafe to use.
I am afraid I will have to revert to a previous version until this is fixed.
For context, this is the feature I am referring to, which has been extremely valuable and widely praised in the past:
Thanks for looking into this.David.P wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:50 am I still can not praise this feature enough. I am using it all day long every day and it saves me so much time and effort.
Recently I found that it is not only possible to drag RTF files directly from Windows Explorer between existing bookmarks of a PDF file, in order to insert the RTF directly as PDF pages -- this even works with Word files. Unbelievable!
Kind regards
