Click-&-Drag Merging Broken? SOLVED

Hello!

The recent update that ran on my program on 12/22/25 seems to have removed or broken one of the tools I often use for work.

When in multiple documents, I used to be able to open the Thumbnails tab, select a couple pages of one, and click-&-drag them to the other to merge the selected pages in seconds. It would also allow me in the Thumbnails tab to move pages up or down the document.

After the update ran, it would only give me the red circle with a line through it when trying to combine documents this way. I also am unable to reorganize pages through the Thumbnails tab. When I tried several times, the program crashed.

In addition, I also would click-&-drag certain pages to the document tab section to create a new document using only those pages.

I understand that there are other options for doing these tasks through the "Organize" tab, but this feature was very convenient, as I am moving pages and combing documents very often. Going through the menus would increase the time it takes to do these tasks by a little, but over time it will build up.

Is this feature going to be returned at some point, or has it been removed completely? Is there a new setting that I need to turn on to allow me to move pages through the Thumbnails tab?

This is a bug, do not worry, we are not removing drag/drop functionality. On some devices, the Tab switch action is delayed (in one test case here up to about 10 seconds). When you see that cancel sign, simply keep hovering the mouse over the target document and the tab will eventually switch allowing you to use the feature you remember.

We are working on a fix for this unexpected delay which will be coming in our 10.8.2 release - though I do not yet have a timeline for when that will be.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and I hope the workaround above is not too cumbersome in the meantime..

As for the crash you mentioned, could I ask you to please reproduce that issue, and provide a detailed step by step process of what actions you took leading up to the crash - Then open your file explorer, and enter this into the address bar:
%localappdata%\CrashDumps
In that folder there should be a file or two with "PDFXEdit" in their name. Please send us the most recent one from that list. It will be too large for email or the forums, so you can upload it here: https://files.pdf-xchange.com/s/83mANHCC3NgWMtE
Please let me know when the upload is completed so we can investigate the issue directly.

Hi there,

This is a bug! I tried to drag and drop, waited over 1 min, but it doesn't work either within PDF-XChange or from Windows Explorer. This is a real nuisance for me. How can I roll back Build 406 to the previous build which works just fine.

Thank you so much for your quick response!

My IT department was able to install a previous version on my device, so I am unable to replicate the crash currently. If I am able to on a coworker's device, I will be sure to send it over!

Unfortunately this issue is still intermittent and ongoing. sometipes drag and drop works, sometimes it wont open the thumbnail bar of the other document to select placing, sometimes when you try to drop it crashes pdf xchange.

Ive uploaded 2x DMP files to the server you previously indicated in the chat.

look for PDFXEdit.exe.5508.dmp and PDFXEdit.exe.20064.dmp
