MANAGING SESSIONS CRASHES

Post by ccathy »

Lately there have been a couple of times when I would open PDF xchange editor and go into sessions to choose a session that I had saved. But the minute that I would go towards the sessions window the program would crash. I searched and searched through this forum for information about this but couldn't find anything. I did see somewhere somebody mentioned managing sessions and showed a window where all the sessions were shown but I couldn't find anything like that in my ribbon. I use the classic UI interface. So on an off chance I typed in manage sessions in the search bar and lo and behold up Pops that dialog box. I would like to know if that dialog box is accessible from any place else other than typing in the search bar! I might never have found it! When I delete all my sessions except for a couple then I can go into sessions and call up most recent ones.

I have pdf xchange editor plus. version 10.1.3. november 2023.

Hello, ccathy

To begin, 10.1 is quite a few years out of date.. so I would recommend an update to 10.8.2 as soon as possible.

If the crash persists after the update, let me know, as our Dev team will need crash dump files from the latest release to investigate this (unfortunately there is nothing we can do to investigate or address it in the older version you are running, as we do not release updates/patches for previous builds.

By default, you can open the Manage Sessions dialog from the following menus in each UI.

Hello, rakunavi

Thank you for adding those image in! I focused too much on the crash and missed the other question

To begin, 10.1 is quite a few years out of date.. so I would recommend an update to 10.8.2 as soon as possible.
Kind regards,
I bought pdf x-change editor plus back in November 2022 for $72.00USD with one year updates, so my version is current as of late 2023. "Quite a few years" isn't really apt here as it has only now become 2026. Two years. I was hoping I would never have to buy another pdf program as I am getting too old for this. It has served me well with only a few hiccups here and there. Most recently it has developed a hissy fit when I get more than 6 or so sessions saved. When I attempt to go into sessions from the file menu to remove any of them the program crashes. So I was happy to see there was a way to invoke session manager without having to go into sessions itself.

The only improvement I could want from the latest and greatest is: "Have you added a preview pane inside the combine files dialog box? So that files can be re-arranged inside that box?" If not, why would I want to spend another 79.00?

Dear Sir

I COULD NOT ACCESS THE SESSIONS FROM THE FILE MENU. THAT WAS MY PROBLEM.

THAT is why I was happy to discover I could access the "manage sessions" dialog box by typing it into search!! There is no other independent means to access it via an icon? A separate command inside some other menu item? Something that doesn't involve going from the file menu into sessions? Trying to do that was what crashed the program.

Hello, ccathy

We cannot control third party processes, and many features of ours are reliant on such third parties. If a crash has appeared anew which was not present in the past few years, and your version of our software has not changed, than something else on the system has caused the issue.
Maintenance renewals include not only new features, but also modernization tweaks, bugfixes, and security improvements.

Beyond that, renewals are not full priced new purchases, all license holders are entitled to a discounted renewal on the product they purchased. After about 2.5 years, you reach at the minimum discount of only 10% off, but it is still discounted. Renewing on time allows you to only pay roughly 20-30% of the base license cost for 1 or 2 years coverage.

If you do not wish to renew, than I am sorry to say there is little we can do to address such issues in an older version. You will need to investigate what else has changed since before the issue began to occur, and try to undo that change (which may be difficult if it was a windows update)

Since nobody suggested it, I recalled how in the past I added tools and commands to my pdfxchange ribbon. I went to "customize toolbars", "commands", and dragged the command "manage sessions" onto my toolbar. LO AND BEHOLD A WAY TO ACCESS THE COMMAND THAT BYPASSES THE PROBLEMATIC ISSUE.

thank you to nobody who could suggest this fix for me.

By the way, has the software been improved to include a preview pane inside the combine files dialog box?

Hello, ccathy

I am sorry to say no, the combine files dialogue in the Editor has not seen a preview added at this time - however, PDF-Tools does offer a function along those lines:
