PDF-XChange Viewer fully eliminated in Windows?

Post by genegold »

A couple of days ago, in the middle of the day, all my PDF-XChange Viewer files icons on my desktop changed to XChange Editor, and Viewer disappeared from Programs in Windows 11 (25H2). Setting it as the default no longer takes. Is that Tracker's doing or MS's?

I know well that Viewer was deprecated and discontinued many years ago, but all this time I've been able to continue to use it as my default PDF program. Not out of obstinacy, but because I've found it the most simple, straight forward PDF program out there for basic duties, as well as sufficient for my 99.9% of my needs. Of course, I can continue to use it, but given the sudden change, I just want to check if it really had been officially eliminated in some fashion.

Hello genegold,

We've noticed recently that AntiVirus software has started updating our products, so it's possible something like that happened for you as well. We would not silently update you - you need to start the updater tool explicitly before any updates are performed by our own products.

Kind regards,
Stefan
