Hi,
I would like to suggest two features pertaining to the search pane which I'm using quite extensively to search through all my pdf documents in specific folders:
- I'd like to be able to find all pdf's where I've added a note (and optionally be able to specify a search string to be looked for in the note itself)
- I'd like to be able to find all pdf's where I've added a bookmark with a specific bookmark title
Thanks for taking these suggestions into consideration, as I'm sure many users would benefit from these features.
Max

Re: Search pane
hmmm, this might by quite useful, indeed.
At the moment I solve it this way. When I add notes to pdf (typewritter, text box, callout), I prefix them with keywords like "mynote", "mytodo", "mystop" to mark where I made a note, where I need to read and do something, and mark where I stopped reading certain part.
The search tool Archivarius3000, will find all them almost instantly among thousands of files. The developers also said they will add indexing of comments that you can add to highlighter tool, rectangle, basically to all objects where you can add comment.

@quant:
Interesting, have never come across Archivarius3000 before, although I'm always trying to be up to date about the best desktop search tool.
Have you by any chance compared Archivarius3000 to e.g. Copernic Destop Search (the best desktop search at present accordingto my experience) -- and if yes, why would you choose Archivarius3000?

Re: Search pane
didn't try Copernicus, only X1, GTD, SearchInform.
Here is a list of some important features that Archivarius provides. Does Copernicus support
- wildcards ? *, so I can search for te?t and it will find text test temt ... or if you use te* finds all words starting with te
- logical operator NOT (words that shouldn't be in document)
- matches only if words are close to each other (10 words apart), this is the most useful feature
- shows extracts of the part of document where the match was found, so you can quickly scan through the search results
- morphology in many languages
- remote searching over the internet

Re: Search pane
Don't know GTD, but otherwise I've tried YDS, GDS, MSDS, X1 and half a dozen more. Of these, CDS overall had the best feature set.
- wildcards ? *, so I can search for te?t and it will find text test temt ... or if you use te* finds all words starting with te
partial match can be set as standard, but no wildcard inside words possible
- logical operator NOT (words that shouldn't be in document)
yes, NOT is done by the "-" prefix as in Google
- matches only if words are close to each other (10 words apart), this is the most useful feature
yes, with operator "near"
- shows extracts of the part of document where the match was found, so you can quickly scan through the search results
yes, full text preview with search term highlighting in sepearate pane
- morphology in many languages
nope
- remote searching over the internet
no remote search, afaik

Re: Search pane
@Tom: Thanks! Looking forward to the addition....
@quant&david: Yeah, I know these search tools, but I would prefer having everything pdf related in one program, ie. XChange.

Re: Search pane
Suggestion:
To search in all currently open files would be nice.

Re: Search pane
I too would like to make a request for the search pane...Tom - Tracker wrote:Noted
If I have a folder with say 100 pdf files, they are named for example 10-1.pdf
10-2.pdf 10-3.pdf 11-1.pdf 11-2.pdf 12-1.pdf 12-2.pdf 12-3.pdf etc...
Now through the file picker I can drill down to the folder containing these files but it will search all 100 files, I would like to drill down to the folder and seach for text in all the "11-*.pdf" and only search through all the pdf files that start with "11-" out of the 100 files in the folder...
In other words allow wildcard file selection of pdf files to search...

Re: Search pane
Hello Rahooty,
And thank you for your suggestion. It is noted but I am afraid that for now we are not planning to add such functionality. Our developers are now quite busy finalizing ver3 of the Viewer, and in the initial builds the advanced search would be quite similar to the current one, but this could of course be changed in the future with new features being added there.
Best,
Stefan
