RT#7753: FR: focus range of selected page number when opening page range dlg

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

Regardless of the current page or the pages selected in the Thumbnails pane, the horizontal scroll bar in the Page Numbering dialog always defaults to the far left. Additionally, the first number range is always selected by default, and the fields in the lower half of the dialog display settings for that first range.

To improve user experience, I believe the horizontal scroll bar should reflect the current page or the selected page in the Thumbnails pane upon opening. Furthermore, the number range to which the current/selected page belongs should be automatically selected, with its corresponding settings displayed in the fields below.

Currently, it is possible to achieve this desired state manually with the following steps:

  1. Press Enter to execute the "Add new range..." command.
  2. Press Enter again to add a new number range using the current or selected page as the default value.
  3. Press Ctrl+Z to undo/delete the newly added number range.
Thanks to the implementation results from the previous topic, executing the shortcut keys {Enter}{Enter}{Ctrl+Z} consecutively achieves the following:

  1. Automatic adjustment of the horizontal scrollbar based on the current page or the selected page in the Thumbnails pane
  2. Pre-selection of the related number range
  3. Reflection of fields corresponding to the related number range

Users can enhance convenience by assigning these shortcuts to a single key using tools like AutoHotkey without waiting for this feature request to be implemented. However, making this behavior standard through application improvements would likely benefit all users.

In the following video, I am using a 1,000-page sample file with number ranges set every 100 pages.

I have assigned Alt+N to the Page Numbering command. After scrolling to a random page, I repeat the following two methods three times:

  • Click the command button on the toolbar.
  • Use an AutoHotkey script that executes the shortcut key combination {Enter}{Enter}{Ctrl+Z} after opening the page numbering dialog with the shortcut key {Alt+N}.
Don’t you agree that the latter method, which adjusts the initial state of the dialog based on the current page, is much more intuitive?

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
