File cannot be opened when converted

Hi, I am using PDFXEdit Portable x64. When I convert a docx to pdf, I get the message "file cannot be opened" (in German: "Die Datei konnte nicht geöffnet werden"). Also, when I double-click a link to a pdf in e.g. an e-mail, the linked pdf is not opened. PDFXChange Editor is set as standard APP for pdfs in Windows setting. Is there a workaround or setting issue that can resolve this issue? thx.

Hi,

it is not single file. It is common to all files.

The problem I have with pdf Exchange Editor is:
- when clicking a link to a pdf in an e-mail
- when converting a pdf from word

I those cases the pdf file does not open, neither pdf exchange editor starts.

I don't have these problems when Adobe is my standard app for pdf files.

Im not sure if it would help. It happens with any pdf I either want to open via a link in an e-mail or when word finished export to pdf function.

As mentioned before, when adobe is default pdf reader, it would open .....

I think the issue is that you are using the portable version, and you have not explicitly informed windows that it should be using the portable executable as the default for PDF files.

Of note here is that:
1. The portable does not have a method to set itself as a system default (it is intended as a portable app, and so would not reliably be available on a given device) - you need to manually do so via the windows "default apps" menu.
2. You are using Ms Word for the conversion process currently, there is no aspect of our software involved in that process - and the portable does not offer our Office addin, so it could not impact the process in any way.
3. You appear to have PDF files set to open in Microsoft Word by default, so Ms Word itself is failing to understand the PDF file that it has created on its own - and is what has provided you with that error message, as you see in the title bar or the error. (The file itself is not damaged in any way)
