I created a fillable PDF from an Excel spreadsheet. Has no JavaScript, formulas, or even linked fields. All fields are text fields. Pretty basic form.
We are using Fieldwire and for some reason when I upload that form, it does not work correctly. The fields will only let you enter in one character. Sometimes when entering and then clicking off the field, what you entered disappears.
Other forms I created work fine. I've submitted this one to Fieldwire support to check and they have yet to find a solution. I recreated the form twice and they all exhibit the same behavior.
Is there a setting or something that might be causing this? I did the other forms the exact same way and they work.

Re: Only one character in form fields
Hello, Greenway
it would be helpful to have a copy of the file, and some screenshots or videos of what happens on your end in this other software, compared to our own.
I should note that PDF fields are complex beasts, but we very strictly adhere to the PDF Specification in our implementation, so any fields we create should be perfectly stable in any PDF software that understands the PDF specification.
Were the fields themselves created by our software, or did another software create some of them, and ours was only used for later editing perhaps?
Kind regards,

Re: Only one character in form fields
I've attached the form and a video of the issue experienced in Fieldwire. It is a very basic form and works fine in the PDF software. This is the only fillable form I've created that does not work in Fieldwire. Scratching my head as to why.
The fields were created with your software. I'm using PDF-XChange Editor Plus v10.7.6, build 404. PDF was created by using the Export feature in Excel.
As you can see in the video, the Job# column doesn't let me input anything, nor does the description column. The other columns will only show the first character of what I type in.
Thanks.

Re: Only one character in form fields
Hi Greenway,
I've had a look at this in PDF-XChange Editor, and there is no issue with filling out the problematic form there - so I'm afraid the most likely cause of this issue is a bug in the Fieldware software.

Ok. I figured as much but always good to double check.
Thanks.

Re: Only one character in form fields
I had someone create the fillable form using Adobe Acrobat. Uploaded into Fieldwire and the form works fine.
So, I have confirmed it has something to do with PDF Exchange. Any ideas? Works with Acrobat using the automatic form field creator but not PDF Exchange using the form creator.
Thanks.
.....Further testing reveals all the forms created in PDF Exchange have issues. The ones created in Acrobat work fine.

Re: Only one character in form fields
Hello, Greenway
At the Same time Sean was posting the results of his testing, I had forwarded these samples to the Dev team, since I noticed an oddity in the field formatting (for some reason comb was enabled for these fields, alongside some other incompatible properties. This was most likely the cause of the issue, and if you manually disable, then reenable the comb function for these fields (do so from the properties panel) I have a sneaking suspicion this will allow you to use forms we have created in the interim.
In any case, I have just heard back from the Dev team on that side of things, and they have informed me that a fix for this issue is in place for the next release (10.8.3) so you should only need to wait a few short weeks for that to come along and resolve the issue here.
