Highlight extends into the next line

Consider this PDF file: https://arxiv.org/pdf/math/0211159

To illustrate the problem, let's say we want to highlight these words located on page 5, line 10: "gradient of the functional".

In PDF-XChange Editor, it seems to be impossible to highlight it without also highlighting the corresponding part of the line below:

At first, I thought this issue was unavoidable (obviously, the TeX formulas on the same line mess up the text boxes and so on).

But to my surprise, Firefox (!) handles it correctly:

Is there a way to make PDF-XChange Editor highlight correctly?
