%[Clipboard] macro for sequential text insertion from clipboard lines

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

I would like to suggest the implementation of a new macro, %[Clipboard], which would sequentially expand lines of text copied to the clipboard. This would be incredibly useful for batch processing where each page or item requires a unique title from a predefined list.

Here are some potential use cases:

  1. Image to PDF Options: If we could use %[Clipboard] in the "Custom text label," it would allow for more intuitive naming than simple sequential numbering when importing multiple images.

    • figure1.png
  2. Bookmarks Every N-th Page: Using %[Clipboard] as the bookmark title would significantly expand the tool's versatility. For example, after creating bookmarks sequentially using this macro, they could be converted into "Named Destinations," effectively allowing users to batch-set titles for destinations.

    • figure2.png
  3. Headers and Footers: This macro could function as a simple data injection tool. If the macro could also accept a column index as a parameter (e.g., treating clipboard data as CSV), it would further enhance its utility for various workflows.

    • figure3.png
  4. Export to Images(s): This is similar to a request previously made in this topic, but it would be useful to be able to specify %[Clipboard] as the filename in the Export to Images(s) dialog.

    • figure4.png

While some of these tasks can currently be achieved by combining features like "Generate Bookmarks From Text File" or the %[Bookmark] macro, they often require multiple complex steps.

Allowing users to directly leverage clipboard text when batch-editing regularly generated pages would drastically improve workflow efficiency.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello Sean, thank you for reaching out to the developers.

For your reference, I’d like to introduce a software called "Speed Talk," which offers a workflow similar to the %[Clipboard] macro suggested above.

  • Software Introduction by the Developer
    https://dexlab.net/pukiwiki/index.php?Software%2F%BC%AB%BA%EE%A5%BD%A5%D5%A5%C8%2FSpeedTalk
    • Download Page (SpeedTalk003.zip)
      https://www.vector.co.jp/soft/win95/util/se289104.html
      https://ftp.vector.co.jp/28/91/2147/SpeedTalk003.zip
Speed Talk is a tool that pastes text from the clipboard line-by-line using Ctrl+V. The only available setting is whether or not to include a line break after pasting. While some advanced clipboard managers like "Clibor" can achieve this through specific configurations, the settings are usually buried quite deep. Therefore, I suspect relatively few users worldwide are aware of this specific use case.

In the video below, I first copy a list of text from Notepad using Ctrl+C. Then, while switching pages in PDF-XChange Editor, I create bookmarks in the Bookmark pane by pressing Ctrl+V. If you look at the Speed Talk interface, you can see the list decreasing by one line each time Ctrl+V is pressed.

Unfortunately, the UI is only available in Japanese, but it is an extremely useful tool for simple data injection.

I'm afraid the developers have said this is unlikely to be done, as it would be complicated to implement - but the team are reviewing it now. I will let you know what they say in due course.

Hello Sean, thank you for sharing the status of your review.

While not directly related to the request mentioned above, anyone interested in this topic will likely find the tool shared by @Mathew extremely useful. It allows you to select text areas on a page and add them to your bookmarks. Since it supports regular expressions, it has a wide range of applications. If anyone hasn't come across it yet, I highly recommend giving it a try.

    Best regards,
