Silent install with PSADT v4.1

Post by MrFeelGood »

Hello,

I am currently deploying PDF-XChange Editor (v10.8.3.408) in an enterprise environment using Microsoft Intune with PSADT (PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit).

The installation itself works fine in system context, but I am struggling with automating the license activation.

We have a valid 3-User Pack license (for a POC), and I would like the application to be automatically activated during deployment so that the end user does not have to manually validate the licence after installation.

I have reviewed the documentation but I cannot find any MSI property such as KEYACCEPTED, or similar that would allow passing the license key as a parameter during installation.

Could you please clarify:

Is there an officially supported MSI parameter to activate the license during silent installation?

If not, what is the recommended method for automatic activation in a managed deployment scenario?

The goal is a fully silent installation and activation in system context, without any user interaction.

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

So if I understand well, the xvault.exe should be run as the connected user, and the licence is then active machine wide ?

Hello, MrFeelGood

Note quite, Both key installation and activation happen in the user context by default. You would need to intentionally install the key to HKLM, and decrypt it to accomplish something like that. https://help.pdf-xchange.com/sysadmin/a ... ation.html
That process will ensure the license is visible to all users on the device. After that, each user will still need to "activate" the license on their user profile (this can be done silently as part of a logon script if desired)

Do note that our licenses are "total user" based NOT "device" based. A "user" is the person behind the computer, not the user profile on the device. This means that if you have a farm of 25 devices shared by 50 users (regardless of which devices each are using at any give time) a 50 user license would be necessary to cover them all.
