Updater failed

For a long time now, updates via the updater have always appeared to download successfully, but then failed with an error message.
Could the fact that it's installed in the C:\tools\PDF-X-Editor folder be related to the problem?

Can you please clarify how long you have been experiencing this issue, and the location from which you're downloading the updater?

Thank you for your reply.
I installed it five years ago or more, and I've never had a single successful automatic update.
The installation folder is C:\tools\PDF-X-Editor, but it's unclear where the Updater downloads it from because the absolute path isn't displayed in the Updater.

I am currently using the latest version (because I installed it manually).

The previously installed version was 10.1.3.383 (the version where the update failed).
