I previously had an older build of PDF-Xchange Editor Plus, and was able to use it to create bookmarks from a table of contents flawlessly without changing any of the settings. Here is an example of bookmarks created from a TOC I did just a couple weeks ago before updating to the latest build (I now have 10.8.5).

Now with the latest build no matter what settings I choose using the Create Bookmarks From Table of Contents tool, I end up with a bunch of periods and extra page numbers at the end that I don't want. What has changed with the tool and how can I go back to the same output I used to get from a previous build? Here are the results now with the default settings.

Obviously I can remove all the periods using the Find and Replace feature but then I also remove the periods in the numbering of each entry which is not what I want.

I would go back to the older PDF-Xchange build I have but its no longer available for download!

I could not reproduce the issue with the files I have on hand in 10.8.5.. Could I ask for both, a copy of the document you are using, and a screenshot of your "bookmarks from Table of contents" settings, so that I can see what might be happening here and reproduce it?

Thank you for the sample file. I have managed to reproduce this using your document (and am as of yet unsure why it is happening). This issue has been escalated to the Dev team for review, so I will keep you informed when i have heard back from them.

Hi Daniel,
Would you be able to provide an estimated time frame for when you might hear a response from the Dev team? I don't mean to come across as pushy, just trying to determine when my company will be able to use the bookmark creation feature again as we produce multiple reports that utilize it every week.

If you have an account that is currently within the maintenance period, you can sign in to your account via the “Login” link in the upper-right corner of the PDF-XChange website and access the download page to download an older build. In that case, the following post may be helpful.
Additionally, if you updated via the PDF-XChange Updater, the files from previous updates may be stored in “C:\ProgramData\PDF-XChange\Updater\InstallPackages” without needing to be downloaded again. I am currently verifying exactly how old a build’s files are retained in local storage, but if you update via PDF-XChange Updater every time, the setup program for build 409 should still be present as long as build 410 is installed.

The good news is, I have just heard back from the Dev team! They suggested we make a ticket for this item:
RT#7824: Bug: Bookmark from ToC these periods are not removed
Unfortunately, I cannot offer a timeline on this fix. It does sounds like it will be targeted for the next major version release (11.0), but I cannot be sure until the fix is completed (at least internally).

Thank you for the update, I am glad the bug has been confirmed for a future fix.
I used rakunavi's advice to test previous builds. I unfortunately had to go all the way back to 10.0.0.370 to find a version that works. I tried starting from most recent builds and going back one by one but the time required to uninstall, restart, and reinstall each build is not trivial. I was able to confirm that the following builds have the same bug:

I've also verified this myself and confirmed that build 404 is the last build that works properly, and that the issue began with build 405. According to the version history, changes have been made to the “Generate Bookmarks from Table of Contents” feature, so this may be the cause.

By the way, if you download the portable version, extract it to any folder, and run it, you can verify the behavior of older builds without affecting your existing installation of PDF-XChange Editor in any way.

Hi rakunavi, this is very helpful. I have installed build 404 as the latest that still works for the bookmark creation tool, thank you.
Thank you Rakunavi for the in depth investigation, I will add these notes to the ticket so the Dev team know what to look at and can hopefully resolve it more quickly!
